Just when you think you have everything running some what better...

You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.

    1. November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
    2. November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
    3. November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
    4. November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.

If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.

To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

    Thank you for your support.

Post SU3 UPDATE

SOH-CM-2025
I was tracking SU3 and the fact that we can download stuff to hard drive now. At the moment I have 2020 "humming" and really enjoying it. When I did have 2024 in January and when I did manage to start a few flights I was most disappointed in the scenery texture rendering which was probably THE thing I was most looking forward to seeing. This was on the back of the massive marketing and the Grand Canyon launch videos etc. Whilst you got pebbles and rocks when you are on the ground once airborne (from what I saw back then) the textures and scenic rendering particularly out in the high desert in California/Nevada was worse than 2020. In mountainous areas the rock faces were as blurred and as indistinct as 2020. Interested to learn if this stuff has improved now we are on SU3?

Mountainous rock faces were always much better than 2020 since the release of 2024 provided your close enough to them.

Hmm that's the problem for me - I'm not close to them. I get that its great if you are a bush pilot etc but for normal VFR heights (both GA and Mil) they looked nowhere near as fancy as those lovely Grand Canyon videos in the launch.

2024 is great for low and slow bush and chopper flying. One of my first adventures was flying around Sedona and landing the Bell Helicopter on top of various provinces we had recently visited. This was an area where they did a pretty good job of portraying the actual buildings and terrain in some detail. Landing on top of "Baby Bell" which we had scrambled up was particularly fun.

At altitude the LOD takes over and sometimes not so good.
