Hi Max,

I was wondering if there is an alternate DP file for this aircraft that mounts the 20mm wing gun pods as an optional/selectable payload.
 
I D/L'd the Daedalus version. However, the gunpods could not be selected as a separate optional payload. These are permanent with the "Guns Only" payload. I was hoping for a DP file where you could have them or not like a bomb or drop tank.
 
I'm not sure why you would want that, but if you added the gondolas via the dp you would also have to have the guns section in the dp set up to fire them. Then when you removed them, you would still have the gondola guns firing even though the gondolas were gone and replaced by a bomb or WGr 21 rockets. Picture the rocket tubes spitting 20mm cannon shells :mixed-smiley-010:.
 
Is it possible to set up the DP files of the gondolas as cannons instead of bombs or rockets? That way you would't need to add them to the guns section and they wouldn't fire when removed.
 
Not that I know of. But you could always try an experiment to see if it would work. Bomb, rocket and torpedo object dp's use a gun station to define the hitpoints when it explodes. I don't know if the trigger entry for the guns to fire would work from the cockpit though.

Take a drop tank you are using and temporarily replace its object dp with a copy you cut and pasted the gun stations from an aircraft dp into. Attach the altered drop tank to your plane and see if the guns in the drop tank will fire and let us know if it works.

it doesn't make sense, because if you take out the cannons selectable as weapons, it will still be set in the dp to fire the cannons.

the G6 have a dp with 3 guns, and the g6r6 have 5 guns (two are the cannons mounting in wings).

Kurt, I've added a payload option for "20mm Wing Cannons". The gondolas only show up when this is selected. I just can't get them to fire. The DP file for "WEP_German_Wing_Cannon_L(R) (in the objects DP folder) doesn't have gunstation and guns entries. I'm currently experimenting with giving them entries to see if I can get them to fire like any other cannon.

Max, I'm not adding the gondola 20mm cannon gunstations and gun entries to the aircraft DP file. I'm only adding the gondolas as a selectable ordinance like a bomb or drop tank and giving it a payload name and option. Then I'll try to make the gondola DP file into a fireable 20mm cannon. I'm also hoping that adding the gunstation and gun entry with the same numbers as the onboard cannons that they will fire with the same trigger.

This whole thing may be impossible to get working but if it does work it would allow you to make upgrades to squadron planes during a campaign without having to add more aircraft to your aircraft folder.

I've got a lot going on here at home and my time to work on this is limited but I'll keep you all updated on any progress I make.
 
OK, here's what I've learned. If you make gun pods a selectable ordinance they will drop off like bombs when armed and "Drop Selected Ordinance" is triggered. Also, the only reason bombs work is that their DP file gives it a bomb effect when it hits the ground or an object and breaks. If you give the gun pods a "gunstation" and "guns" entry in their DP file, the program has no way of linking them to a cannon trigger.

So, in a nutshell the idea of gun pods as a selectable ordinance option will not work. Maybe if by some miracle MS gives up the source code for CFS2, we can make all kinds of great things happen but until then it's all trial and error.
 
True but again, without the source code it's all trial and error and who knows what you might come up with. So, anything is worth an experiment.
 
I still can't figure out why MS holds so tight to the source code for a 22 year old sim. Unless parts of it would unlock things on any newer sim they put out.
