PRB's MacRobertson Machinations

Motoring down the Persian Gulf. Cool shot of the southern end of the Zagros Mountains, along the coast of Iran. Don't need an engine failure now...

Made it to JASK! Of course, this leg was the first one in which I encountered permafig, and the first airport without an NDB station. Why should I be surprised about that?

Off to Karachi.

You know, I've discovered something interesting about this Gee Bee. It has no rudder. Well, it has one, and it even moves to and fro when you push on the pedals in the cockpit, but that's just to make the pilot think he's actually making a positive contribution to the guidance of the aircraft, one way or another. In fact the rudder has almost no effect whatsoever on the flying characteristics of the beastly ship.

With the FS9 version, it does help keep the aircraft from going hard to port on take off. But you have to be above 20kias for it start taking effect.

Rgr Willy, I noticed that too. Maybe that's the ground steering thing in the contact points?

Arrived at OPSF. It was figgy there too.

Think I can make it all the way to Allahabad on the next leg?

Me neither, but lets see...

The answer was not long coming. It's "uh, no". Diverting VIJO.

Look, no more desert.

It's still working once the tail gets up in the air. And the ground steering on it is atrocious. If it wasn't for differential braking, I would probably have to slew it instead of taxiing.

Rgr Willy. In flight mine behaves strange. If I apply full left rudder the nose swings slightly right and drops. If I apply full right rudder, the nose swings slightly left and rises. That's it.

Arrived at Jodhpur Air Base. Dang! No NDB station, and no visibility. And big scary thunder storms. Once over the city I had to climb above 5000 feet to escape the permafig, find the airport, get close to it, and drop like a stone. That last part is easy in the Gee Bee...

Thanks Robert! We'll see what sort of trouble we can get into in this town! :biggrin-new:

The crossing of the Son River. Or Sone River. Apparently one of the largest tributaries of the mighty Ganges. I hope it's the Sone river, lets put it that way. If it isn't I'm probably in Brazil.

Take your time :biggrin-new:

There's already one of the Brothers Gibb and a Sick Horse Key leaking oil all over the ramp at WMKA. I think a few of the local Malay tribesmen are collecting the drippings to sell to some of the pirate ships hereabouts.

Rgr on the other disco plane. Made it to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. VECC. Say that five times real fast. Made my second landing with nary a bounce. Something must be wrong. I think I wore out the leaf springs or something. Gotta see if they have NAPA store in this town. Have to fix this problem. Can't fly all the way to Australia with worn out bouncy springs in the main gear assembly.

Couldn't find a NAPA store. Oh well. So we're headed out across the shark filled waters of the Bay of Bengals, to Yangon, V Why Why Why. Shouldn't that be tigers? Tiger sharks I suppose.
