President Obama was in town today (Seattle) and casued a sonic boom!!!

We had a similar thing happen here in the Gary/Hammond/Chicago area just last week...

...some poor soul with severe Reading Deficit Disorder who didn't read the NOTAMs before flying into the TFR over Chicago...

The sonic booms from the two a/c on overhead patrol shook, rattled and rolled my house as they zoomed overhead... :bump:

X15

I can still remember my first sonic ... I still believe to this day that it was the x-15 as that was the only aircraft available at the time, (I think,) that could go that fast. I was a wee lad of 10 ... so the era was 1965 or so.

Since then, I've experienced several other sonics and recently have been honored to have been "soniced" by the double boom of the space shuttle.

:salute:
I will have to dig out the book that I have on all of the x planes and send you some info on themand I know a lot about them as the chefe test pilot for them was a very close frend of my dads !

Sounds like I have been missing out with these sonic booms. Well, I got mine so now I know what it is like. It sure did get the juices flowing and yes, I want MORE!!!! :jump:

Nah. Here's from the local paper..

"A wayward float plane on its way from Lake Chelan to Lake Washington triggered the action when it violated a no-fly zone put in place over the Seattle area to protect the president during his visit there."

"The float plane left the restricted area before the fighters arrived. Obama was never in danger, and no injuries or damage were reported. The pilot of the Cessna 180 was released after being questioned by the Secret Service, The Associated Press reported. "

Me and my daughter just flew in from Florida. An announcement was made that Air Force One was in view of our plane. My daughter got a quick glimpse but I was already sleeping. I think it flew past the opposite side that we were on so I doubt I would have seen it anyway.

There were lots of 'em in the Bay Area in the late 50's and early 60's. I liked them....then of course,
the weenies started passing laws and getting all concerned about the ptential blah blah balh...
typical!

Used to hear them all the time while in school in the 50's & 60's in eastern MA. Grew up near Hanscom Field in Bedford, MA. Also used to see dozens of C-119's flying around. Our class windows used to vibrate quite a bit when the booms occurred. Get it from time to time now when they ring-out an F-15 at Robins AFB in central GA....:jump:

The scary part is all the knuckleheads calling 911 and crashing the entire system. God helps us if a real disaster should strike this area (barring the occasional earthquake ;) )
