Problems Starting CFS2

Hi all,
I finally got CFS2 to install on my computer. I did the "install everything" install and didn't have a problem. Now the problem. When I try to start the sim, it will load to about 20% or so then I get a "Program has stopped working" error popup. I can not get the sim to fully start. And yes, I have the disk in. I've tried all the compatibility buttons; none help. Anyone have a similar issue?

Thanks,

Steve

Sorry! I am using Windows 7, 64-bit. I've tried all of the compatibility options; none help. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing. Nada. Not sure what else to try next.

I have the same system as yours but have never had this problem. I can't imagine where the cause might be. The disk itself? I'm sorry Southern I wish I could be more help.

Just curious but what condition is the disc in? If it has light surface scratches I found a way a while back to fix them. As long as they are not gouges...clean the disc gently with a small drop of dish detergent after rinsing with warm water to remove dust etc. From the center of the disc towards the outside simply use a wet finger or two to spread the film of detergent across the disc. Let this set for a few moments and then rinse it completely with warm water until clean. Let it dry. The secret here is to use a very fine plastic polish to gently remove surface scratches. The polish is the same that is used to remove fine scratches from headlights. DO NOT confuse this polish with the compound version for headlights as this I assure you would undoubtedly destroy the surface of the disc. When polished simply rinse the disc (DO NOT BUFF IT!) to remove any latent residues. It has worked for me a few times...key term here however is gently polish the disc...

time ago....

time ago someone with same problem appeared, solution is in the crack folder if it exist , i mean , to crack correctly is needed.

There are 2 disks in the set, still in the hard case they came in. Both are clean with no scratches. I bought CFS2 some years ago and it worked fine on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. I had put all of my combat sims away and forgot about them; I just found them again while going through some boxes that had been in storage. I don't know anything about a crack; this is an official Microsoft set.

I think I may had this once. I think I replaced the CFS2.CFG with one I had in back up to fix this.

You can try the CFS2.CFG I'm attching below. You need to place it in the main CFS2. Make a copy of your old one first.

Hi, Allen!
After checking my main CFS2 folder, I saw that I did not have a cfs2.cfg file in it. I placed the one you gave me in and tried again. Didn't work. I just don't get this; it worked fine on the old computer running 2000 and XP.

Thats odd... CFS2.CFG should be in the Combat Flight Simulator 2 folder when CFS2 first starts along with a bunch of other .cfg.

Just a hunch...

Go into Control Panel and turn off User Account Controls (UAC) . With Win 7 there may be something in there that keeps the game from booting. Also, make sure the game installed in: C/Program Files/Microsoft Games and not in C/Program files (x86).

Shadow, I have mine installed in C/Program files (x86). It works and runs fine but is there a reason it should not be installed in that location?

Hi guys, thanks for all the replies! I don't have UAC on because it annoys the snot out of me. CFS2 did install to Programs(x86), so I uninstalled it and re-installed it to Programs. No difference. It COULD possibly be a Direct X issue, but I can't get it started so I can't go into setup to change it. The only cfs2.xxx files I see in the install folder are cfs2,exe and cfs2.icd.
