Problems with ETO Installation

stuart277

SOH-CM-2025
Hi All,

I have been trying to get a new ETO installation up and running for CFS2, but I am running into a few problems.

I am using Ramis_Europe_scenery_install_guide_Rhumba_edition.

All seems well up to the installation of the LOD 8 mesh.

I have attached some pictures. (From around the Isle of Wight)

They may not be in order, but they are numbered correctly.

I am not sure where I am going wrong.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Stuart

P.S. - I managed to install Rami's Battle of Britain with the self installer.

I runs but when I try to open the Mission Builder I get the dreaded 'Fail to Initialize'.

Again, I am not sure why.

I did not do anything to the mdlnames file, just left it as has been suggested previously.

Hey Stuart277,

I'll be happy to help you later this evening, but this morning I am taking the kids and the missus to this today, tomorrow, and Thursday: http://www.sailboston.com/

So I will have to answer this evening if someone else doesn't beat me to it. :very_drunk:

But just to ask, you did remember to copy the textures from the scenedb\world\texture folder to the main folder in your CFS2 installation, correct?

Also, try posting your scenery.cfg and I will have a look at it.

Hi Rami,

Thanks for the reply.

'But just to ask, you did remember to copy the textures from the scenedb\world\texture folder to the main folder in your CFS2 installation, correct?'

This fixed the problem.:applause::applause::applause:

Have a great day on the Harbour and have one of those Tall Ship Ales on me.

Cheers,

Stuart

P.S. - Unless I missed something, the guide does not seem to say this.

Page 14 - "Now, this is very important…the texture files from your SCENEDB\WORLD\TEXTURE folder must be moved to the cfs2_eurw_LC_su_BETA4 folder, leaving you with nothing in your SCENEDB\WORLD\TEXTURE folder."

"The files in that folder will look like this" (a picture ff the 'scenery' folder with the cfs2_eurw_LC_su_BETA4.bgl file.

That did not quite seem to make 'sense'.

On page 20,

'Have you put the SDC's "added texture" bmps in your ,...\cfs2\texture and in your...\cfs2\scenedb\world\texture.(step2) ?"

This is the six texture bmp's from Sanders Eurw download.

I can't find "remember to copy the textures from the scenedb\world\texture folder to the main folder in your CFS2 installation" in the instructions?

Hi Rami,

I got the 'failed to initialize' sorted.

Too many objects (1734)

I just used the stock objects and the ones from the download. It now has 1541 objects.

On my way now.

Cheers,

Stuart

Stuart277,

Good morning! I didn't realize how tired I was going to be last night! I'm glad you solved that error issue; that was going to be my next recommendation.

Stuart277,

This is the instruction that tells you to copy the textures from the Beta4 folder to the main texture folder in your CFS2 install:

Now, this is very important…the texture files from your SCENEDB\WORLD\TEXTURE folder must be copied to the main, or “root” TEXTURE folder in the sim where you’ll be using this scenery. This TEXTURE folder is NOT located in either the SCENEDB or SCENERY folders; it is a separate folder, found between SOUND and UIRES folder.

I don't recall the instruction on page 20; you wouldn't have coastlines with shores anyway outside the areas where Sander and or Jean Bomber's (in the Mediterranean) coastlines don't cover.
