What I hoped was a bad power supply has become a fried motherboard. Finances what they are, and barring my winning the lottery, I probably won't be back.

Sorry to hear that Ed. However, supply and demand and constant turning over of newer technologies, you can get very decent mobo's for under $200.

Hopefully your files are still accessible and backed up, mine unfortunately were not, at least completely.

Anyway, a pain in the arse to reinstall everything, but you have a great knack for contributing to a great hobby and would be a shame to see you leave because of a failed motherboard. Just saying..

Ed, As Strykerpsg says, motherboards today can be very reasonable. Your remaining hardware should be just fine so just find a motherboard to match your processor and memory. That shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Hope you get it worked out.

Just to verify....when I purchased the power supply this morning...I had to keep it under 80.00. I know "under 200." doesn't sound bad....but I could never spend that much any more. Thank you all for the suggestions, I do appreciate it.

Yeah, I agree, what FSXAR177 said. How do we do it? Can Ickie set up a paypal fund? $5.00 here, $10.00 there, and a mobo should be purchased.

7589 posts.....SOH has stepped up to the plate before.....i know big talk from someone who doesnt have a spare dime to his name...but someone has just done something very kind for me....and it would sure be nice to see SOH try to help Falcon

I'm in the same boat, my retirement went down the "Austerity" toilet, but I'd sure kick in ten bucks to help out a friend.

It'd be a really great shame to lose you Ed, you've given an enormous amount to our hobby. I'll contribute for absolute sure.

I know what you mean about limited funds. Things have been tuff the last few years with forced retirement, wife's illnesses, furnace, hot water heater, sump pump, you name it, if I did not have it break or cost me money, that wasn't there, it did not exist! Falcon has been a regular and good supporter here and I am really glad we can help out. Now, for myself, I need a new car, I was thinking about the new Lamborgini "killer" version, I know it is only 4 million dollars, but hey, it is for a worthy cause, and all who donate will get a chance to ride in it as soon as I get int insured (unless you feel really good and want to get that too! how much could it cost?) Thanks Falcon for all that you have contributed and hope this will help you get back up and rejoin us. Thanks also to this board for there thoughtfulness. Don
