In CFS2 all of the following files can be safely opened, edited and saved without losing any of their functionalities:
*.cfg
*.ini
*.dp
*.cmg
*.mis
MS-Notepad is the best choice, because it doesn't add any text formatting info to the document it saves.
I had a nightmare a long time ago when I used the default Windows install MS-Write first and Winword afterwards to try curing the problem. I was working on an aircraft.cfg and the text editing resulted in a total disappearance of the plane from the FF menu.
Once I used Notepad to edit the simple changes I needed, everything went back to normal.
Even if we choose to save in simple text (*.txt) format with MS-Write and/or MS-Word, these applications add "something" to the file that CFS2 will not like.
MS-Notepad, with its almost unnatural simplicity in today's computer world, is the way to go.
