Prop effects for the new B-24J......

....I thought to re-upload here at SOH a repaint I did a couple of years ago, when The B24Guy's overhaul job of the stock B-24D was released.

I originally uploaded it at Lindsay Watts' http://forum.lwdesigns.com.au/ on March. 2012. Being an original work from Lindsay's the base for my repaint, at the time the issues, which I never understood fully, that were going on between him and SOH prevented me from uploading this pack here as well.
At the present time, Lindsay's website is no longer online. Since a good effort went into this work, I am re-uploading it here for preservation and to share it with other people.
The last I heard of him, he was having serious health troubles, which I guess caused his website to be taken offline.

I want to take this opportunity to wish him a prompt recovery from whatever ails him. I would truly hate to read again here that another simmer I was in touch with in the past, who helped me with countless problems I encountered when I was a CFS2 rookie like all of us, passed on.

So, Lindsay Watts painted a generic desert "pink" camo skin for the stock B-24D Liberator in the early CFS2 days. Then, he released an update (v.2.0), placing early North Africa invasion U.S. roundels on it, making the repaint perfect for this project. I demirrored and adapted it to The B24Guy's overhauled model.
All credits for the generic, base skin paint job must therefore go to Mr. Lindsay Watts.

The new repaint depicts B-24D "Hail Columbia/Little Chief Big Dog", serial # 41-11825, 98th Bomb Group, 9th Air Force, which took part to the historical August 1,1943 "Operation Tidal Wave", the low-level bombing mission of the Ploesti refinery in Romania. Proper damage texture files are included.

Included two alternative blurred propeller textures to choose from and an alternative dp file with:

- stock payloads replaced with Dbolt's Enhanced US Weapons v.2.0;
- additional paired drop and salvo drop;
- the AI single drop developed by Tango;
- an extra depth charge payload created with Rocktser22's Martin Mariner PMB-1 US depth charges;
- Green Ghost style gauge-controlled exhaust effect.

The B24Guy's overhauled stock B-24D Liberator is available here.

Dbolt's Enhanced US Weapons v.2.0 are available here and at:

- http://www.simviation.com

Rocktser22's US depth charges are included in his Martin Mariner PMB-1 pack available here and at:

- http://www.simviation.com

You will find this pack in the CFS2/US Skins section as soon as it will be approved.

Enjoy!

Kelti,
Very, very pretty. I have a soft spot for the B-24 and this one hits home.
Thanks,

Stefano,

This is outstanding work, thank you so very much!

Did anyone notice......

...that Allen updated his B-24J with new propellers and animated cowl flaps?

:applause: :applause: :applause:

Thank you again, Allen, the resulting "eye-candy" is great and this new framerate efficient Lib is a must have for every serious CFS2 pilot.

I just posted this thread as a separate announcement so that everybody, who downloaded the old version, is advised to go and download Allen's B-24J again in order to get the updated model.

Cheers!

Kelticheart,

This is really outstanding work...I'll have to try out a belly landing and see if I survive! :applause:

Alternative props, exh effects and dp for Allen's B-24J!

A good day to everybody! :wavey:

I just posted alternative blurred propeller textures for Allen's Consolidated B-24J Liberator, developed from the stock AI B-24J Liberator and The B24Guy's overhaul of the same model.

  • VERY IMPORTANT: THESE TEXTURES ARE DESIGNED TO FIT ALLEN'S UPDATED B-24J MODEL WITH NEW PROPELLERS. THEREFORE, IF YOU DOWNLOADED ALLEN'S FIRST POST ONLY, YOU MUST DOWNLOAD HIS B-24J AGAIN IN ORDER TO GET THE NEW PROPS. THESE TEXTURES WILL NOT FIT ALLEN'S FIRST UPLOAD, REPLACED BY HIS UPDATE.

I corrected the missing yellow tips from the back of the prop blades and added Hamilton Standard brand logo to the front.

Included an alternative dp file with:

- stock payloads replaced with Dbolt's Enhanced US Weapons v.2.0;
- additional paired drop and salvo drop;
- the AI single drop developed by Tango;
- an extra depth charge payload created with Rocktser22's Martin Mariner PMB-1 US Mk53 aerial depth charges;
- Green Ghost style gauge-controlled exhaust effect.

Dbolt's Enhanced US Weapons v.2.0 are available both here and at:

- http://www.simviation.com

Rocktser22's US Mk53 depth charges are included in his Martin Mariner PMB-1 pack available both here and at:

- http://www.simviation.com

The enclosed aircraft.cfg will also give you belly landing capability and asymmetrical landing gear animation.

The pack will be available, as soon as it will be approved, in the "CFS2-Effects" section of the Library.

Enjoy!

Good luck.....

Kelticheart,

This is really outstanding work...I'll have to try out a belly landing and see if I survive!

Thank you!

Good luck on that, the Lib is a big and heavy ship. Her wings are built high on the fuselage, so the pilot cannot count on contact points spread wide.

My best suggestions are:

  1. dump all fuel first
  2. lower your stall speed as much as possible, while trying to get all the residual lift you can by adding elevator trim to the flaps
  3. try to stall her at a couple of inches from the runway and don't belly land on any rough surface out of the runway
  4. be swift to turn all contacts off, including fuel cocks, the very moment you touchdown

In all honesty, of all the times I tried an emergency belly landing with the B-24, I only survived twice. In spite of all the assurances given by the author of the belly landing mod, it works fine for all the rest of the stock planes but with the B-24 it's quite a challenge. Worst and much less successful than trying to land her on a carrier! :cower:

This belly landing mod comes from CFS2 good ole days, when all stock AI planes were made end-user flyable. I simply carried it forward through The B24Guy's overhauled B-24D and now this one.

Cheers!
