PTO Scenery Configuration

erufle

Educator
Could somebody who has a pacific theater of operations install with Rhumbaflappy's mesh and all of the correct watermasking, flattens, shorelines and such post a copy of their scenery configuration file? I am building a new install and I want all of the bells and whistles. If it were available a new tutorial would come in handy.

PLEASE . . . any advice on putting together a new PTO install is more than welcome. Its not that I don't know how. I am an old pro at this. I am just not sure that I understand all of the ins and outs of Rhumba's mesh and the whole coastline thing yet. I have read all of the previous posts, but someone needs to put it all together for me, and I know I am not the only one. Now that this mesh has been out for awhile, and most of the necessary tweaks have been identified, I figure we could all benefit from this new thread. Or . . . am I just giving the forum's major gurus a headache?

Here you go:

Also, I just put his watermasking into the main cfs2 per his directions, rather than putting them in and activating them.

BTW There are no beaches (sand n surf) to go with the coast lines in Rhumba's mesh/mask mix. The beach BGLs are getting added to specific locations as specific scenery is made for those locations.

Me too, something on the order of what Rami did for Europe. I installed everything and it looks great, but I think it could be even greater.

Well *maybe* I can help.

I'm an odd ball in the group because I have one mass install for CFS2. Mine covers every WWII theater. It has issues, but I find that these or more and more related to old airfields not meshing well with Rhumba's mesh.

A few of Xavier's airfiels have issues, but that's because he built the fields with just the stock terrian, or other types of mesh before Rhumb's.

With Maskrider's airfields to keep the scenery list simple I just drop all of his scenery in to one 'Maskrider' folder (except the Milne Bay which has an auto installer).

and i saw that there is work underway to make some of the older default fields fit too, just the basics...and they may need added items. And i also wonder if Jean Bomber's beautiful Truk will work with the Rhumba work too.

the beach shoreline was a signifcant part of the default install..this was a great pic posted last year..sorry i dont remember who posted it... i hope there is a way to get the beaches back with Rhumba's great work with watermasks.

this was posted last year i am sorry i forget who posted it, but it is a view in the default install with the Pac textures.... and the shoreline is an very important part of the overall feel. I hope we can do something about that with Rhumba's great new work.

Hi All

I think that, for the PTO,the best way ,to benefit of the Rhumba's watermask and mesh, is to install a specific "cfs2NEW" for them where you can today place the new Maskrider scenery Dutch East Indies Pack
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=22724
"- built for Rhumba's mesh and masks packs- "
This scenery recreate the shorelines that missed with only the R's watermask. He had rebuilt an entire scenery with new waterclass and some nice blended airfields as usual .:medals:
Surely it's the first addition,cfs2NEW is a place for many projects ...it's huge..... I think that will not be the last.
icon26.gif

The Truk scenery will surely work with the new watermasks ,the scenery is mainly a land water class rework and the only shorelines i've added was on islands or Coral reef that don't exist on the cfs2 stock scenery.
The main problem will be with the airbases, runways and gsl objects that will be surely for some of them in the water ....
If you want use the original cfs2 with lod8 mesh you will need to use the Rhumba Pacific flatten ,I don't remember the exact name....:icon_lol:,that could give your cfs2 as in the second CrisGer's pic.

thank you Jean, that was very nice of you to post about this. I am currently going thru all the availalbe files for CFS2 and will keep an eye out for Rhumba's flatteners, I found some for pacific but by Ettico for Japan and USA...wil keep looking. I am relieved to hear about Truk, it is such a beautiful work, and I can try to make flatteners if i end up trying to run it with Rhumba.

...I am going to try to get in touch with Sander to see if we can get copies of all his cities....

While you're at it, CG - ask him if S-O-H can host ALL of his files.

I don't wish to speak for the PTB (Powers That Be) but I'll wager they'd relish a centralized location for his work that was accessible to all... Consistently.

SC

:kilroy:

Understood and will comply. Will do my best.

btw, i see that Chris has done most of the same places that Xavierb2 did, except for a few...like India, and Burma....does anyone know how well Xaviers locations work with Rhumba?

Thanks all, this is a big help. Wulf, I'm going to follow your suggestions...looks good. I'm also saving this whole thread. Cg, if you do contact Sanders thank him for all his previous work. :wavey:

ah that is what i was looking for. the coast pack.

and i started my note to Sander with a huge thank you from all of us :)

And that pic i posted was posted by Morton last year, and he used Pac Tex pack to create those very nice textures.
