Hmmm.....I guess I should know this already, but I am not sure which way to go here. I want to flatten the coastal water bordering the Lebanon. the water flatten sets by Rhumbaflappy don't do it for me so I am wondering whether, by entering the geographic coordinates for the water in blocks or boxes (in cfs2.cfg) I will get the flattening I want. Any ideas or alternative suggestions welcome!

The easiest way would be, to turn FS9 data into a better Land/Water-Mask, a fitting coastline incl. flattening using Sanders method:

As you see on his map, his work don`t reach as far as to the Libanon.
(rhumbaflappy`s probably ended at the same line between Europe West & East)
So one must extract the data from the EurE (Europe-East) files.

At the moment I am dealing with his tools, but progress is very limited.

However, there are a few guys out there, who know the process even better.

I believe Rhumbaflappy's African water pack should cover the Eastern Mediterranean, including Lebanon. :wiggle:

This is taken west of Rayak, a base in Lebanon.
 
I have Rhumbaflappy's African water installed (see above) but the water close to the coastal fringe is still (in places) "hilly".

When you master the land-water masking method I hope you will visit the Eastern Mediterranean!
 
Quick fix would be to use Derek Leung's FSSC to create a flat area.

To get the co-ordinates use Top-down view trace around the area with the crosshair and write down the co-ordinates for all the twists and turns of the shoreline. Get the altitude also!

It would work best for the harbor areas. I have used this technique for fairly large areas also.

Not quite sure what you mean. With FSSC you create a flat area as a bgl which the program places in the scenery folder of the particular scenery file.

Don't think that it can be incorperated into a gsl file but it is easy enough to make a folder for it

If you can give the co-ords of the problem area I can give it a try and send it to you. It's only a couple kb.

Just checked out the Beirut area in my game.

At N33*58.53' E35*28.20' sea level is 20'.
At N33*56.43' E35*35.75 it is 695'.
At N34*1.50' E35*37.87' it is 0'.

If this is the area there will be some very steep cliffs at the waters edge.

Here is a sample flatten for the area. The land flat area can easily be altered to suit your scenery.

Just remove the .txt from the attachment and you know the rest.

Most of the elevations above 0' at sea are indeed close to the coast line but that is not uniform. The other curiosity is that a few of those adjoin coastline elevations which are only just above zero.

I don't know what to do with boxed co-ords. To use FSSC I need at least four points to do an area. If you can add two more sets to each set (the four corners) I can see what I can do.

I've added the flatten you made and it works beautifully. The harbour is perfectly flat when I land a flying boat and the southern breakwater sits correctly. Many many thanks for your help.
