Question about swingman's Grumman Duck

Hi guys,

I've downloaded this great plane and run the model file through MKMDLC to convert it for CFS2. All appears to have workied with one exception. The textures are all black. Anyone else run into this with other models? Suggested fix?

Thanks,

Kilroy

u need the DXTBmp program, is free and u can get it here: http://www.btinternet.com/~mnwright/

Too expand slightly on this post, the textures must be in a format that CFS2 does not recognise.

You should download this program. Open up each texture with it.

- Click File/Save as/ Extended Bitmap/
- Click on the 'Save as type option'

Now this is debatable because I know some fantastic skinners whio contradict each other but I always save as '' Extended 16 Bit 565 '' and it always seems to get good results. (I think it may have been SC who told people to save as this and his results speak very much in favour of his case

MAYBE NOT THE PROPELLOR though as I think alpha channels come into play, I'll leave someone who knows more about this to explain better

I tend to use DXT1 for items where fine detail is not an issue, but if I add any fine detail like emblems or names then I use 16 bit/565 as it seems to come out sharper.

Cheers,

In some cases, the textures (in the original textures) includes a alpha chanel, that makes some transparency the aircraft, to avoid that, u need to save it in the option DXT1 no alpha chanel, in other cases the pexiglass is is milky and to fix it u only need to remove it from texture folder.:salute:

Well, I tried saving to both suggested formats..no dice. My poor duck is still as black as night.

I checked it out. Not a problem really. You just need to know the differing compression formats that CFS2 uses.

The texture bitmaps are all saved as DXT3. Since you have the DXT1 bitmap manipulator program you will need to open each file (and there are a ton of them) and simply save it as a DXT1 WITH Alpha - not without. If you save it as DXT1 without Alpha it will still be black. Make sure that the MipMap check boxes are both left unchecked or the image will be blurry.

I converted just a few of the texture files to show that this works. You may also want to take the model back through Mk-Mdl / MDLC and tone down the shine. It is so hot that it is washing out a lot of the panel details.
