Question for Maskrider

Chris,

I noticed in another thread that you recently installed the latest nvidea drivers (178.24, I believe). Did you experience any problems?

Since I have installed them CFS2 will not open properly. When I hit the icon to run CFS2 a black screen comes up with an hourglass and it stays there awhile and then nothing. Then if I do a Control-alt-delete and bring up the task manager, CFS2 appears and runs normally.
By the way, it appears CFS2 is running in the background (behind the black screen) because if I run the mouse over the screen I can hear the sounds that emanate when you pass over the buttons on the CFS2 initial screen.

I'm wondering if it's possibly related the resolution I'm attempting to run the game at (1440X900) which is my monitors native resolution. Any thoughts?? Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

I am afraid you have asked precisely the wrong person. I put off upgrading my video drivers for a very long time because to me it seems such a chore and because you just never know whats gonna happen.

I lucked out. CFS2 is running swimmingly for me on the new 178.24 drivers. I did it by the book. Thoroughly cleaned all traces of the old drivers (93.71) using Nvidia Nasty File Remover.

FYI I am running the driver on a GeForce 7800 GS card, 256MB, using a Intell duo core 1.86GHz processor with 2GB RAM (as best I can tell :)).

Wish I could offer something more concrete.

But not to worry. I bet that if you repost this thread under a new title- something directed more toward the problem- one or more of the knowledgeable/helpful folks around here will get you squared away.

"Question for MaskRider" isn't going to attract the talent you need for this issue.

Good luck,
Chris

Thanks for your prompt answer Chris. I thought about the title of the post afterwards and figured it might not be the most adequate for my problem but at the time I thought it might be the easiest way to get your attention.

By the way, if you have a moment, may I ask what resolution you are running??

Thanks again!

Mike

Hey Chris,

In answer to your question, yes, they match now running the latest driver, but when I was running the older driver, the game was at a lower resolution. That is why I'm thinking it's possibly a resolution problem. I'm at work now, so I won't be able to test that theory until I get home.

If that's not the problem I guess I'll reinstall the old driver and see if it goes away. All other games (FS9 for one) seem to be real happy with the new driver. The only reason I installed it was because I was having graphics issues with the new Tomb Raider Demo (don't laugh) and the new driver solved those problems.

Chris (and others),

FYI in case you ever run into a similar problem. The problem turned out to be one of the settings in the Nvidia Control Panel. It was not the driver or the resolution as I had suspected. Turns out CFS2 did not like an AA setting of 8X. Dropped it one notch to 8xS and everything is back to normal.

Laters.......
