Question for Mr. Barendregt

A search of SOH postings reveals that there have been several inquiries about finding a way to de-link the afterburner effect from the [Lights] section. Unfortunately, no answers.

It has been suggested that you (Mr. Barendregt) may have a suitable gauge that will allow turning on the lights without activating the re-heat.

Thanks in advance!

I have a gauge that Rob wrote up for me that sets the AB up totally different that the usual way. Most jets have the AB and the AB effect turn on when you push the throttle to some set percent (95% usually). And these planes have the annoying tendency for the AB effect to show when you turn on the lights. The new gauge Rob wrote up eliminates this. You can go full throttle, full engine power and the AB does not kick in......you have to actively engages the AB system (Shift F4 is the default key command). Also, with this gauge, the AB effect does not display when you turn on the lights because Rob set it up in such a way that unless certain conditions are met (throttle at 98% or greater, engine RPM at 95% or more, and the AB system being turned on via the pilot) the effect will not show. It is still assigned to the LOGO light, but the effect does not show when you turn on the lights.

I am using this new gauge on some jets I am doing restoration work on (Alphasim F-105 Thunder Chief, FDG2 F-100 Super Sabre) and plan to upload the gauge with those planes. However, I have no idea when those planes will be done and uploaded, so I will get the gauge packaged up with a HOW TO explaining how to set the gauge up for your jets and upload the gauge here. Rob gave me permission to share the gauge as a freeware item, so I will get busy sharing it. This new AB control gauge is so much better than the typical gauge in that the AB system does not automatically get turned on just because your throttle is at 100%.

I have the gauge packaged up and the read me file typed up, and will upload to the FS2004 library here in a bit. Have to schedule a repair call on my sis-in-law's 4 month old $1500 3D 51 inch TV...then I need to eat some chili dogs///I'm starved!

Service call for the TV is done, chili dogs were delicious! The package has been uploaded to the FS2004 Other section of the Warbirds library.

Thanks Rob Barendregt for this gauge. It works perfectly and makes the AB system on my jets much more realistic.

D/L'd it a little while ago. My first two candidates for the surgery are the IRIS F-15 and the Alpha/Virtavia F-4. But I likely won't get to that until Friday! :icon_lol: (WHAT? We don't have a TURKEY smiley?!?!?)
