What the heck is Buka - NB Airfield supposed to be?

I can find no historical reference to it. The closest I've ever found is Jacquinot Bay; but they missed the location by an entire peninsula.:isadizzy:

Naw, that's Buka on Bougainville. That's one is correct. The one I'm asking about in CFS2 is on New Britain.

No Reason to Be sorry, it's confused a lot of people and over the years. I've never read anything on the CFS2 boards about it. Figured I'd see if someone out there had any info on it beyond what I've been able to find. Which is squat other than Jacquinot Bay. Another great CFS2 mystery!!! LOL

On Google Earth seems like there is an old air strip in the same location of CFS2: Buka - Papua New Guinea (New Britain).

Whoops - posted at the same time as the others but it looks like the same place as Japlance's.

Yep, that's the location. I've used Google Earth at that location before but nothing has ever come up as far as a marker. What I can't put together is the Historical relevance of the place MS chose to use. As for Jacquinot Bay you can see where it was (totally over grown) on the wide views you posted. It was on the peninsula dead west of the Buka - PNG marker. It was constructed by the Aussies in late '44 - early '45 and used by the RNZAF. As for Buka - NB/PNG nada. No Japanese or Allied reference I can find.

Hey RF, long time no see, how you been?

That's the page I learned about Jacquinot from. I use Pacific Wrecks site alot. Great website top to bottom.

I made an error. Jacquinot is on the big pininsula to the SW, not the little one dead west of Buka.

Well Pen the truth is that it's a retirement home for Saddle Tramps.I thought by now you would know that.:costumes:
