question on Alphasim freeware B-24 textures ...

Does anyone know what format the textures on the Alphasim B-24 turrets are ?

I've tried a few different ones but mostly get grey for the glass.... tried an alpha channel via DXT1, but that was too transparent - only got the frame showing...

:help:

I find that DXT3 is the easiest format to work with...and it works just fine for the Alpha B-24 turrets..provided you have your alpha channel set properly. When I did some repaints for the AS B-24s, the turret alphas drove me nuts..but then again, working with alpha channels was new to me at the time.

Thanks OBIO, I'll give that a go.

I think what's thrown me off is that the original has a completely white alpha when opened with DXTBMP. It also interprets the texture as 256 format...

If you are working off the files in the AS supplied paint template, the files for the turret will not have alpha channels, as those files are in 24 bit format. If you open one of the turret files from a working skin, then DXTbmp will show the proper alpha channel. I sent the alpha channel to my paint editor, saved it as a new file....such as Nose Turret...something to help me remember which turret it was for. THen when I had done my paints, I imported that matching alpha channel into the alpha channel window and all was good.

Yep, that's the way to store the alpha .bmp's OBIO. Makes it handy for changes.

Your DXT3 prompt got me thinking.... I'm making those small windows that are usually painted, semi transparent via an alpha.... just working out the appropriate grey scale to make it darker...

lot's of fun :)
