Question on visibility

I've always flow CFS 2 with labels "ON". Because of the limited graphics detail of this older sim, it's hard to ID aircraft and you can lose them easily over terrain even with high res on a 27" TV for a monitor. But here's my question. If you turn labels off, do the enemy AC ID you the same as with labels on or are they also limited in visibility?

They seem to have no visibility limitations. they can even target you in cloud you can see nothing in. Must have secret radar installed in every plane..:pirate:

The AI's targeting does seem to be driven solely by the sim. Given that the sim must know the location of every object in space and time, there might be no way to limit AI's visual targeting. CFS 3 is not much better either. I've watched online video of IL2 Cliffs of Dover and that sim's graphics are incredible but visual identification of aircraft is still nowhere near the human eye in the real world. Having the labels over aircraft does downplay the immersion factor but not being able to ID A/C at all, even at 200+ yards seems worse. Even VR is no good for me since I sit in a simpit surrounded by real controls that I need to see without having to feel around for them. Where's a halodeck when you need one?!?!?!

I agree Cfs-2 has it,s limits , the visual perception , for target aircraft is bad , so I tend to use
the tags , but to counter that I started using just one letter Id - German = + British = O
and wing men O1, O2 eg , just so I can track the damaged ones , Less clutter , in a furr ball!

I would say the Eai track the players gauge read out , I,ve had them shoot me up inside a hanger ,
and unless your flying low in the Swiss alps , It can be very hard to shake one off your tail ,
especially when your running a damage log too ,

SW, if they can shoot you inside a hanger then this definitely answers my question as to AI visual targeting. I like your idea of shortening A/C ID labels. However, this may cause some confusion when writing missions with multiple squadrons from one country. You might have to resort to listing them as country, squadron then element.

For example, a German fighter, in one of two German squadrons, element 3 would be listed as +(German) 1(squadron) 3(element) so it would show up as +13. You could also indicate if it's a bomber of fighter by adding B or F. Then it would be +1F3 since element number is added automatically at the end. But even with all this info incorporated into the name, it still shortens the label considerably. Come to think of it, you could also eliminate the country (+ or O) and rely on color, shortening the label to 1F3. The idea certainly opens a lot of possibilities to shorten labels. Now all I have to do is modify my 200+ missions. Well at least I'll have a new winter hobby LOL.

There are no limits to testing , For instance , Running an aircraft with out a Dp + Cdp makes the Eai ,
think your invisible , they won,t attack you , but you can,t shoot them either , --- If you removed the default Dp ,s

So I assume the Country listing of the Dp , has to be consulted first , for enemy status
going with a neutral country , may help then , but probably , as soon as you target and shoot
they tag you Eai --
