RAF/Dutch Spitfire inquiry? (P7981)

mgr

SOH-CM-2023
Hiya,

For a possible repaint project i am looking for info and better photo's of the Mk IIa Spitfire c/n P7981 in the period 1941-44.

It's a bit mystic, the aircraft is RAF and crashed in 1941 and was written off on paper.

The story goes (according book: "Dutch Spitfires, A technical Study" that the aircraft was rebuild and loaned to Dutch H.R.H. Prince Bernard, which flew it as his personal aircraft in the period of '41 till '44. The book shows (only) a profile drawing of the aircraft and a small photo's on which the aircraft can not be identified as such.... :ques:

So is the story true and if yes are there any photo's of it in that period? Being the aircraft of the prince it must been photographed some times during the period.

Any pointers are welcome.

Marcel

PS
Yes i did a google search :salute:
