Rami's mission & scenery thread

Good evening,

Here is another labor of love for all of you to enjoy...Operation Marita. This was the last truly successful offensive campaign for the Germans before Barbarossa eventually turned the tide of the war. This package has fifty-three missions, evenly split between bombers and fighters. (They are two separate campaigns) Each campaign is slightly dynamic, so you end up flying about twenty-five missions each. Both campaigns begin on April 6th, 1941 and end on May 28th, 1941. (The evacuation missions following that until the end of the campaign on June 1st, 1941 will be part of the Dodecanese campaign)

Most of these missions are focused on land targets, although there are moments in each campaign where you focus on destroying the British Navy. These missions are often a reflection of the Royal Air Force missions I released about two weeks ago, but many other cover events not used in the RAF campaign.

There has also been great care, similar to the RAF campaign, to emphasize historical accuracy, although some missions are amalgams of days where there were several patrols or small missions, and/or the same target was attacked on consecutive days or within a short period of time.

Most missions are my original design, but handful of missions have also been incorporated from the "Hellas" campaign when possible. However, this was the exception rather than the rule. For the most part, this campaign runs true to the historical facts, even using real pilot names when the data is available. The same holds true for the mission descriptions and synopses, for those who are interested in the history.

There will be more naval missions in the Dodecanese campaign, which is also nearing completion.

Stuart277 - I am still in the process of evaluating your ships, but if the testing goes well, I may do a "patch" for the five missions where I could incorporate more of your ships in this campaign. They will be more prevalent in the Dodecanese and British Crete campaigns.

Many thanks to Shadow Wolf 07 and Talon, both for Shadow's beta testing and Talon's "encouragement" to focus on more original historical campaigns, though he has all the subtlety of a mafia hit. :icon_lol: Both he and Talon also suggested covering missions from multiple sides, so I thank them for that as well!

And another round of thanks to Achim, for building the bases to help all this happen!

More to come, folks!

Arethusa Class

Hi Rami,

I have'nt checked out your work yet, but I reckon it'll be first class.

I should have a WW2 Arethusa Class cruiser ready in 3-4 days. They are mostly done, but I am pretty busy this weekend (and the next 4-5 weeks).

Without researching, these ships may be of use to you in your campaigns.

Cheers,

Stuart277

PS I heard that Boston won the baseball.

P.P.S. I also heard that you are a red Sox supporter

P.P.P.S. I am sure that you are fairly happy about the result.:icon_lol:

Thanks Rami for all this hard work!! :medals:

I'm not flying too much lately. I've been overloaded with my work during the last two months but I´ll try installing this campaign soon.

Cheers, Discus

Discus,

First, you're very welcome. It was a pleasure to work on this one. I have enjoyed working on all sides of it so far!

Second,

It will be ready for you whenever you are ready. No pressure involved! :salute:

Hi Rami,

I have a texture for the Ju88 at about 80%, it just needs dirtying up a bit. Hoping to upload tomorrow.

Yep, something very like that. I finished it last night Oz time and tried to upload but Ickie was weaving some sort of magic. At work at the moment so I can't post a screenshot. I won't be home tonight so I'll do it tomorrow.

The texture is about to be placed in the upload queue. I was unable to fully texture the starboard engine cooling gills. The screenshot was taken before some last minute details were added.

Cheers,

Dodecanese campaigns by Rami

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Campaigns Add-Ons

Description: This is my chronicle of the often separate Italian & German efforts in the Aegean Sea, centering around the isle of Crete and the Dodecanese islands from October of 1940 through the aerial invasion of Crete by the Germans on 20 May, 1941. The campaign ends with the final evacuations of the British on approximately 30 May, 1941. It is written from the perspective of the Germans & Italians; the German campaign is twelve missions in length, while the Italian campaign is eleven missions long. These campaigns, "Phase IV" of the Balkans project, are not directly connected or a mirrored image of other campaigns and missions, but fits into the theatre.

There has been little effort by other designers to chronicle this period of the war in Greece. All missions in this campaign have been created from the ground up using various sources including the internet, along with the works of Christopher Shores, Brian Cull, Chris Dunning, and Nicola Malizia. Each mission contains a synopsis of either the actual event or the overall tactical situation in Rhodes or Crete that allows the flyer to get a sense of the history and the winning effort to squeeze off British and Greek shipping in the Eastern Med, as well as an effort to interfere with the British and Greek effort to shore up Crete's defenses before the Axis invasion in May.

Based mostly from Calato airfield on the island of Rhodes, Gerbini airfield on the island of Sicily, & Scarpanto airfield on the island of Karpathos, this campaign covers most of the major missions and events in the Eastern Mediterranean during this time period, including missions to reconnoitre shipping in the Suez canal, along with repeated missions by the Italians to strike airfields & naval facilities on Crete, preventing them from being used by the British. This is coupled with Luftwaffe missions out of Rhodes and Eastern Sicily, where they frequently flew long-range missions to attack British shipping between Egypt, Crete, and Greece.

Enjoy!

Hey guys,

These two campaigns originally began as missions that didn't "fit" the other campaigns, because they were centered in the Aegean Sea, the Island of Crete, and the Dodecanese Islands. Many of the German missions are long-range anti-shipping missions from Sicily, one is about 1,400 miles in length, while others are somewhat shorter. The Italian missions are often much shorter, primarily consisting of short hops from Rhodes or Scarpanto (Karpathos) to attack targets on Crete.

All of these missions are historically-based, although some missions are amalgams of missions on days where there were several small attacks, and/or raids which occurred on consecutive days, or similar missions in type over a short period of time.

I've begin the process of flipping these, and other missions around to chronicle the RAF / FAA effort on and around Crete against the Germans and the Italians.

I hope you enjoy, this is another labor of love.

Defense of Crete (RAF) double feature released!

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Campaigns Add-Ons

Description: This campaign package is a two-in-one, and includes an expanded version of the previously released "Royal Air Force Vs Luftwaffe."

The first folder, "Defense of Crete - (RAF)" is a self-contained, eighteen mission historical campaign that deals with the defense of Crete from mid-February, 1941 through the end of May, 1941. During this campaign, you'll participate in the island's defense from both German and Italian intruders. The campaign begins slowly, even including a couple of offensive missions before the Germans begin to pressure the island's airbases and defenses at the end of April and into May. As the Germans invade, your ability to stay on the island becomes untenable, and you conclude the campaign by attacking Crete from bases in North Africa.

The second folder, "Defense of Greece (RAF) " picks up where the "Royal Air Force Vs Luftwaffe" campaign left off; the retreat of RAF Hurricanes from Argos to Malemes on 24 April, 1941. Beginning on 29 April, this campaign follows the description listed above. The main difference is you pick up the Cretan campaign several missions into the timeline, after you've fought the Germans up north on the mainland and were steadily pushed back. This campaign ends up being a total of thirty-six missions in length.

As stated in the installation readme, installing the "Defense of Greece (RAF)" campaign and allowing it to overwrite the "Royal Air Force Vs" Luftwaffe" missions will not harm them in any way.

Happy flying!

Good evening,

I hope you enjoy this package, it is another labor of love. This package is a two-in-one; allowing you to fly the previous campaign..."Royal Air Force Vs Luftwaffe" to its conclusion. The campaign, with this package, is expanded to thirty-six missions.

The standalone "Defense of Crete" package is an eighteen-mission linear campaign which begins in mid-February, well before the start of the German invasion. You actually don't pick up the combat over Greece with the expanded campaign listed above until mission five.

These two campaigns just deal with land-based actions on Crete, not convoy protection missions and those covering the evacuation. That will come with the campaign I am jumping back into next. I also threw in an update to the Dodecanese campaign so the German missions don't have Italian speech and flight names.
