Razbam A-4 Skyhawks....Volumes 1 or 2?

OBIO

Retired SOH Admin
Okay....I have Volume 4 of the Razbam Skyhawks and love them. But I want some non-hump backed variants so I can retire the old CFS2/FS2002 Alphasim freeware Skyhawks. Which pack should I buy to get the most bang for my non-humped Skyhawk bucks? I've looked at the list of variants....but I have no idea what all the variants look like....the foreign jobbers I have no idea and there are no screenshots of what is what.

I purchased Vols 2 & 4. Vol.2 has NO HUMPBACKS. Vol 1 contains the early Scooters and, as such, should contain no humpbacks.

- H52

Vol.1:
A, B, C, P,Q, S (early scooters)
Vol2
E, Mongoose, K, G, H (mid life scooters and agressors)
Vol3
2 seat variants (including the extremely peculiar Singapore version
Vol4
Humpbacks , any A-4 that ever flew with the avionics humpback is there (including the A-4L which is a C with a humpback)

Best regards

Volume 2 may be the winner. Possibly this month, if not definitely next month. Depends on how the green stuff looks after paying bills and buying groceries.

Watch out for these packs - everything you've read above is absolutely correct - maybe a better way to put it is to say, watch out for the repaints. There are a number out there by David Russell that are first-rate repaints. They worked beautifully on the first issue of the Skyhawks packs, but since then the model of the aircraft has changed and the textures now don't show properly on the aircraft. It's almost midnight here or I'd go through what I've got to let you know which ones to avoid - try to get to that tomorrow. Someone on this forum (Matt Wynn?? - I'll look it up) tried to check into converting them to the new model but was unable to do so. I'll put together a list of these things sometime tomorrow - after taking the wife to the dr to look at her foot surgery.

I would suggest Vol 1 (I also have Vo. 4). There are many great paints available for the USN/USMC A-4C model that saw extensive action in SEA and is the quintessential "non-humpback" Scooter IMHO.

Volume 2 will definitely give you "most bang for (your) non-humped Skyhawk bucks" & be a sensible replacement for the older Alphasim model; but I kinda agree with Expat, volume 1 will give you a decent enough selection of non-humped Scooters, and the -A model (and the XA4D-1) are sufficiently different from the norm to give this pack a bit of an edge - imo anyway. SSI01 is right about the repaints for volume 2, Russel Smith's paints were done for an earlier incarnation so won't work, but there are a few out there & it obviously leaves plenty of scope for others - only thing stopping me doing some is that flippin' font, I don't have Longbeach (used to, lost it in the HD crash) and don't have the time/patience to do things from scratch.

OBIO I checked my sim and discovered the problem Russell Smith textures are all for the Razbam A-4E; the units involved are:
USN - VA-12, VA-163, VA-164, VA-55
USMC - VMA-121, VMA-223, VMA-311

Beautiful textures, just won't adapt to the new model. Too bad.
