Razbam a-7e fde

I have the A-7D/E/H pack 1 only and patched it to v1.20/SP2 as of June 2011 - these are the timestamps of some of the updated files:

RAZBAM_A_7_GAUGES.CAB = 7-Jun-2011
A7OWM.exe = 11-Apr-2011
A7_Ordnance_Mngr.dll = 11-Apr-2011
Aircraft.cfg = 11-Apr-2011

If anyone wants to try, attached my FDE mod for pack 1 - A-7D/E/H. Ground steering and low speed handling/engine responsiveness should be easier with this mod. It also addresses a minor issue with the contact points to make the jet sit on the ground with more nose up attitude like the real sluff.

Aircraft cfg I have from 2010-09-15, so it looks like in Razbam store is old file.

Thank You for the new FM.

Well, dusted her off and doing some flying and I agree the FDE is not as bad as I remembered, BUT, yes, ground handling is poor, and I also find it yaws too much on short final carrier traps for some reason. Going to try the modded FDE kindly attached above (thanks!) and report back. Aircraft, despite its plug ugly design looks pretty good in some of Zsolt's clothing (particularly the Oriskany paint)!

Expat, I could probably search and search to find it, but what squadron (of Zsolt's repaints) was featured with the Oriskany? NC

Checked and reported! :)
Yes, now is much better. According me A-7 model had to much power, now is better (just need more speed for good AOA of Landing 135-140kts, was 115kts). Good stering and good behavior in low speed. I can now use Accu feel too with some of modifications, with default FM of Razbam for vol.1 not (strange behavior).
Thank You!
Now, I must find solution for more sounds (wings, speed break, flaps, probe, tail hook...).

VA-22 paint scheme - which is real?

OT Warning - it's a repaint/scheme question ...

OK - first a heads-up to anyone who doesn't know, here is a great pack of repaints from Merida. Some really nice work here. It didn't make the rounds at the "usual" places - I only discovered about a year ago, and so I figured as part of the whole "Corsair Revival" that's underway, some folks mightn't have seen it.

Now, check out the special op (Operation Praying Mantis) brown VA-22 scheme. BuNo 302. Since it was a special scheme for a brief op, I've never seen photos, but it's the one most commonly seen in scale models and decal schemes ...

Now, check out this scheme for that same op, but BuNo 301:

Have never seen it before. Did they really paint two aircraft in two different schemes for the same op? Seems odd.

Anyway - I find the 301 simply oozing hotness - would repaint in a heartbeat if I had the means. But wondering if anyone has any insight into how they painted the A-7 for the op....

thanks,

dl

Thanks! It is a major improvement over the original!

One thing that has always bothered me about this model is the red light that "bleeds" through the fuselage, in the intake area. Is there anyway to fix this? NC

That is caused by the positioning of the VC lighting; replace your [LIGHTS] section with the modified version below:

[LIGHTS]
;#1=beacon #2=strobe #3=nav #4=cockpit #5=landing #6=taxi
;#7=recog #8=wing #9=logo #10=cabin
light.0= 1, 0.019, 0.00, 4.255, fx_beacon
light.1= 2, 4.297, 0.00, -4.057, fx_beacon
light.2= 4, 13.000, 0.00, 1.800, fx_Razbam_A7_vclight_red
light.3= 9, 13.000, 0.00, 2.110, fx_Razbam_A7_vclight_red
light.4= 10, 13.100, -0.40, 2.000, fx_Razbam_A7_vclight_red
light.5= 10, 13.000, 0.40, 1.800, fx_Razbam_A7_vclight_red

Both beacons tend to flash through to the intake area too, regardless of if you've hit the L key for all lights. If you have the Shockwave/Redux lights.. you can replace both beacons with 'fx_shockwave_beaconb_nl'. For some reason, there's no beaconh_nl (beacon high no light) but beaconb_nl (beacon below no light) works ok above and below. At least this stops the beacon flashes being visible in the intake area;)

Tks for that new section Henk:encouragement:

Thanks for putting this one together. I've thought it needed some work but wasn't that bad. Any idea if these changes can be applied to the "family" version?

Thank you Dave - fx_shockwave_beaconb_nl.fx is much better !

cheers, Henk.

Do you mean the other 2 packs with the A-7A/B and the twin seaters? I do not have those so I can't say. Specially the ones that have the old underpowered TF30 engines (A-7A/B, TA-7C) will need different FDE tweaks I suppose.

Ok, looking better, but this is what it looks like now....NC

NC, the easiest way to solve this is to use no more than one of the VC lights, the more you switch on, the more over exposure you get. When I use the Flight Instruments Light Switch only, it looks quite decent. You also could try to find an alternative VC light FX file that is less bright I suppose.

Thanks for suggestions. I will try them.

And anyone else who may have similar problems with this, and have found alternative VC Light FX file that works better, please let me know! NC

Around the time of Praying Mantis, VA-22 did indeed paint at least one plane like that. I saw it with my own eye bulbs, as they were our sister squadron. The one I remember seemed to be more shades of blue, however, but my memory could be faulty on that point. It was pretty cool looking.

Thanks PRB - I figured either you, NC, or Eric could set me straight on that scheme ... just love it, even smarter than the already sharp-looking brown one ...

PS: AHA!! Success ... my google foo was weak ... finally found a real pic ... and I agree that the middle shade should be blue, not grey - your memory was bang on.
