If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

RE: Navy Demonstrates New 'Super Gun'

...and next thing you know you've got something like this in much, much, MUCH bigger format in Earth's orbit for bombarding planets in other star systems. :icon_lol:

No need to worry about US mass drivers in orbit. We have no way to reload them much less get them up there. China on the other hand......

Nah, the Eridani Accords against planetary bombardment would prevent this. Anyone in violation of the Eridani edict would find themselves at war with every civilized star nation or polity!

The TEC doesn't care about any accords. The Novalith rail gun is the pinnacle of their research tree and decimates nearly the whole population of an enemy planet.

Build a few of them and you can bleed a whole empire dry (pun maybe intended) financially, since citizens = taxes.

That's what I was implying.

The game I'm talking about, by the way, is Sins Of A Solar Empire, the best strategy game I've ever played.

Ah so! My reference was to the Solarian League post Diaspora (4055), as recounted in David Weber's Honorverse.
Ships of the Wall used grasers, lasers and bomb-pumped laser warheads on multi-drive missles. :ernae:

Nothing compared to SOASE. The default method of razing a planet is with nukes. Quite an impressive sight having a few capital ships in orbit around a planet and seeing mushroom clouds all over the place. :d

A half-dozen 100 kiloton masses accelerated to .93c will pretty much pasturize the ecosphere of any sized planet. No need for anything as primitive as nukes... ;)

I'm assuming that what looks like flame/fire coming out the barrel is really super heated air that has been turned into a plasma like gas due to the extreme high voltage used to propeller the ballistic mass.
