RE: Political advertisments

Hi All,
This is NOT a political statement directed at a particular candidate or party. Just on the continual deluge of unending political commercials dumping on the other person running.
November 2nd isn't coming up quick enough to end this lunacy. The constant bombardment of one candidate slinging mud all over the other person. And most of it's done with 'half-truths.' What I don't get is why the advertisement companies that write this smear crap think that somehow a voter will react positively by listening and believing this piled on junk mud smearing. Apparently, they think if you can throw enough crap out on your opponent that some of it's gonna' stick.
They only do a disservice (I think) to their candidate.....not an enhancement. And of course,....being politicians......they'll promise the sun and the moon to get us out of our economic and financial mess we've been in. And bring back jobs and prosperity. When they want your vote,....most speak with forked tongue as we know it.
TV and cable is the worse. I immediately reach for the remote and the mute button when a political commercial starts to babble how great they are and how unsavory their opponent is. Usually there will be a five minute slot of these commercials gabbing and counter gabbing upon one another.
Now, even getting these dumb,.............real dumb,.....political recordings on the phone,....why I should vote for such and such person. Enough!:isadizzy:
Again,...I can't wait until Election Day comes up in early November to end this nonsense. Well,...at least for another two years!
I'd like to hear some inputs on situation in your neck of the woods. Please,...no reference to party of candidates names....otherwise this post will be yanked.

This is essentially Advertising 101, applied to political campaigns. All of the theories, tactics and concepts that are used to cause consumers to buy this or that can be used in the publicity of any particular political campaign.

And, just like in commercial marketing, there is the occasional stupid tactic that backfires on a campaign and can help cost the candidate the race.

:running:

Well Brad, Since we are in the same area, I am listening to the same crap. They sling more mud than talk about what they are going to do to improve things. The same commercials over and over again. I am to the point where I just change the channel.

Pretty much the same thing here in California, endless TV ad's, phone calls and my basket of junk mail is overflowing with campaign flyers. As for the mud slinging It seems like thats par for the course in modern politics, sad really. In both of the recent televised debates that I watched both of the candidates seemed more interested in self promotion than they did in debating each other. You could have had two parrots repeating oppposing campaign slogans and there wouldn't have been much of a difference.

I'm voting for the incumbent Representative here.
So far she has not had one negative ad on the air.
Shown a lot of integrity in this campaign, IMHO.

The 'opponent' has run nothing but negative advertising from outside 3rd party committees.
Then runs her own ads stating she is so much better, but never goes into detail as to why.
First negative ad I saw, my mind was made up. :salute:

We don't allow political parties in NWT Canada and as such there against the law, Nunavut is the same way and Yukon well there just Yukon. Not sure about the Provinces.

If you don't like the political advertisements vote Republican, or was that the Democrats that had the advertisements against political advertisements?

ummm, actually I think the communist party vowed to end political Ads if they were elected in a majority.:salute:

Would the country come to an end if these clowns would put out positive ads on why we should vote for him/her and spell out how they intend to fix things. But negative ads do work on the uninformed, and there seems to be a lot of them. That's how we got in this mess in the first place isn't it?

politicians don't fall out of the sky or come to us from another dimension, they are products of our system. If the politicians are flawed, then that says somthing about the system, its like the old saying in the computer world, garbage in, garbage out.

Science flash! The reason, at least a partial one, why BS is shown, is the 'illusion-of-truth effect'. Link to Wikipedia. It´s kind scary how easily human brain can be hoaxed. Here´s some more information: Link to Boston.com

I do highly recommend reading the article from Boston.com. It´s fascinating.

image how much good could be done if, instead of the money being spent on this political crap, it was instead spent on medical research or feeding and housing the homeless

There's always Nader, lol.

Brad, it's part of America and always has been from Day One. My choice of candidates is made without the advertising, it's all lost on me. I've already voted as I have no vehicle, and my votes are out of vengeance, next election if things don't improve I will be voting with my feet.

Bones

Both sides have been claiming things that are so dishonest it is pathetic. I don't want to vote for any of those losers.

He's just like Pelosi!!! He's in bed with the drug companies!!! She's lying about her voting record!!!

WHAT EVER. If you can't promote yourself, you should not be running for ANYTHING.

Just wait gang, after this one then the Presidential race kicks in! I'm laying bets that the first mud slinging ad's start in 2011.

I only like one of those adds....anything that Sarah Palin has to say is ok with me. With or without clothes is ok too. The rest can just stop. I haven't seen one yet that I like or has any common sence...including Palin...I just like her cus she sexy....moooo!

I quit watching ALL tv, (network OR satellite) many months ago.

I watch Netflix, period.

I am a much happier person since doing so!

Aye, aye Chief! All I watch on TV these days is football. And, I am getting tired of having to watch two hours of ads for one hour of football.

Record and watch later. It is the only way I can stand it anymore. The way the Bears are playing lately, I almost want to fast forward through the game and watch the commercials. :toilet:

I don't have a recorder. As little TV we watch, it would be a waste of money.
