RE: US F-15E crashes over Benghazi

And the rescue was by V-22 Osprey. Another first...

At least it can be used Afghanistan, Iraq and now Libya. The same can't be said for a another aircraft...

IBL

Glad the crew is safe.

I'm not so sure about that Naismith, it depends on what you count as a "loss" since aircraft are damaged in a number of ways....but there's never been an F-15 lost to enemy fire.

The F-15's kill ratio is currently listed as 95:0. That makes it the most effective air superiority fighter ever produced. Incidentally, it was the first air superiority fighter designed for that role for the USAF since the F-86.

Am I correct in thinking that the USAF has never until now lost an F-15 in a war zone?

There have been F-15's lost to SAM/AAA but not in actual Air to Air engagements. It's the only Fighter in history with a perfect kill ratio. A combination of good design, training, and luck no doubt. Also consider that in 1991, the losses were confined to the E model and as can be expected, any type that flies strike profiles is exposed to a greater degree of danger of AAA & SAM's.
