Smoking Wingtip

Hello all. I took the plunge as well, and I'm still wiping the drool off of my keyboard. Awesome! The only quirk I've encountered so far is the port wingtip trails a huge white smoke plume whenever I turn on the wing tip lights. It remains until I shut them off. I can use any of the other lights without problem. If I install the A2A lights into this plane, will the smoking wingtip thing be gone, or does another part of the cfg handle this effect?
 
So far, I've completely re-installed the plane...no dice, edited out the smoke system in the aircraft cfg.... no dice, deleted the entire lights section from the aircraft cfg...no dice, and edited out the engine fire effect from the aircraft cfg.. no dice. It looks like this Kitty will only fly during daylight hours until further notice. I don't know what controls what I'm seeing, or what to get rid of to get it to stop...:isadizzy:
 
Yeah, Krazy.. I deleted the entire lights section, and used the old // method on the smoke system, and nothing changed. It' strange, I know....
 
Sounds like you have a corrupt FX file , the smoke bus i used for sound effects and the .cfg light entries are used for engine smoke .

All the actual lights were attached to the model, and you could swap the files by changing the name of one you would like to use to one
of the following


fx_navredc
fx_navred

and the other wing

fx_navgre
fx_navgrec

dont forget to back up the originals
 
I was going to say it has to be a hosed FX file & being port it should be one of the :

fx_navredc
fx_navred

did you install a plane lately that may have overwrote or does this occur with other planes?
 
Thanks for the help, guys. This is the only plane I've installed in a while, and it was the last one I put in. Where exactly do I make these substitutionsfor the port wing lights?
 
You will find the effects i mentoned in the FSX Effects folder , back them up and then copy and rename your choice of shockwave or any other light effect the same name as is being replaced.
The model file's attach point code is looking for those 4 names , all default effects so its important to back them up.

No soap, guys. I tried 2 different light effects renamed as above, and the dreaded smoke is still there. Wierd... :isadizzy:
 
I thought of that, too, Mathias, but it's been turned off since I set this new machine up. I am running 64 bit Vista, however, and have no idea if that could be an issue.
 
Okay... I replaced all stock effect files with fresh ones, and the smoke now comes from directly behind the plane whenever the wing lights are on.... and the tail running light will not switch off while wing lights are on or come on unless the wing lights are on... Anybody got a flask of Holy water (no irreverence intended) that I can borrow? This is getting really weird.....:isadizzy::confused:
 
I see it's been a while since this thread has been around...

I have just purchased this and she is a real beauty! I know its an older release, but I have always been fond of this particular cat, and I am not dissapointed!

I do have some questions (I have also posted some technical bits on the Vertigo site) but I thought that you good SOH folks might be able to give directions to a dummy such as myself! :redface:

- Drop Bombs - could not get the "/" key to do anything; I spent ages checking my fsx button config to see if a "drop bomb" command was there, then reading through this thread I see the word "spoiler" and remembered that many eons ago I assigned my spoilers to a button on my joystick; I will give that a go tonight!
- Smoke - lots of smoke pouring out, something to do with my lights?
- ADF - I can tune the ADF radio into a local NDB, but is a direction indicated on any of the gauges?
- Do the supercharger or circuit breakers have any function (or eye candy?)
- Is there a handbrake in the VC? A generator switch?

All-up, this a beautifully rendered model, that flys smooth on my old pc; with a bag full of special features and details. She has surprising (well, i guess it is a carrier plane!) short field performance, wonderful sounds and is basically a whole lot of fun to throw around the sky! Well done Vertigo; hmmm, now that Bearcat is looking mighty nice! :salute:

dunno about that specific F6F, but before ADF instruments came into being, a method named four course radio range or LFR was used. The pilot had to navigate by listening to morse code or a steady tone (if he was on one of the four radials of the signal station).
