RealFlight F6F Hellcat Released

hmm thats ment to be the f6f5's panel robby, which has different mapping .... sounds like an interior model mix up? f3s interior model should be f6f3_int.MDL, might be worth a check?

Very nice aircraft however there appears to be a mapping problem on the instrument panel of the British versions. I also have only F6F-5's showing on the UI - I installed using the large install - on Vista 64

Robby that’s totally haywire and i was wondering what’s going on myself, though i suspect your are running sp1 and the sim is reacting to a texture.cfg issue and is addressed in the service pack.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

One possibility can be eliminated by putting the following
http://westcoastatc.com/events/In_Common.zip
in the common texture folder

The included Aircraft.cfg rectifies the aircraft type issue
and allows the popup radio to be used
Thanks for your patience .CJ

Solar: Thanks for the link on the 10W engine. The P-47 has a rather different setup as it has a (somewhat) regulated turbocharger feeding into the primary supercharger rather than an acessory supercharging stage. However either can use just the primary supercharger for takeoff under normal conditions.

An interesting article, it appears that the test engine had a somewhat weak primary supercharger (or was way out of adjustment) as 2000' is a lower than normal altitude to invoke the power loss (about 200 hp) of engaging low blower.

Hi Everyone,
I had a small graphics problem with the canopies of the two British camouflaged versions of the Hellcat in DX10 mode, but the support guys over at RealFlight sorted it straight away. Now that’s what I call service! In DX10 preview with Light Bloom turned on this really is a beautiful little airplane. Here are the screenshots (DX10) to prove it!

Regards,
Ian

We're please everythings worked out for you IanHenry, I hope you enjoy flying her.

Santa came early for me
i just got it, have not installed it yet
Thanks to all :ernae:

I have the same condition occasionaly. I was thinking it had something to do with the gear not being totally down and locked. I use the PFC jet console which has the landing gear switch and lights. Whenever this happens the lights are still red. (not down and locked) It is not the stall warning alarm but more a warning the plane is not in a landing configuration. I don't know if this is modelled, but I am going to check and see if hydraulic pressure is low and allowing the gear to lock. However, I have landed with the horn sounding and the red landing lights on with no problem.

Interesting problem,

Edit: I did another flight and prior to takeoff checked the Hyd pressure. The manual lists normal hydraulic pressure at 1500psi. At idle engine it was only at 350 and full power 750. This may not be modelled. Also while you can move the hand pump selector valve to gear etc., the hand pump appears to not operate. At least I couldn't get it to operate.

Tom

Well, I did some flight testing on this and as far as I can tell, the warning tone sounds if you lower the flaps before you lower the landing gear. I was down around 100 KTS and lowered and raised the gear several times without the warning sounding. But if I lowered the flaps while the wheels were still up, the warning tone sounded, and would never go away, even after putting the wheels down.

Interesting thing about the Hellcat’s wheels and flaps. I was watching my “Roaring Glory” DVD on the Hellcat, and Steve Hinton says the F6F-5 was designed so that you could use the lowered landing gear as speed brakes (of sorts). While the gear will not lock in the down position until you are below 135 KTS, once they are locked, you can safely fly up to 350 KTS with the wheels down without bending anything. The flaps do not have an upper speed limit at all! You can lower them at any speed, and the system will lower them to the appropriate level based on airspeed. In this way they can be used as maneuvering flaps. This makes it all the more curious why we would get a warning tone if the flaps are lowered without the wheels being down.

On another note, I had been taking off by trying to lift the tail off the runway first, and was having some trouble with that technique. Then I watched Steve Hinton takeoff – he just lets the ship lift off all three wheels at once. I tried it that way in “my” Hellcat and it works quite nicely!

Thanks Chuck. I'm running FSX Acceleration on Vista 64. The aircraft.cfg file in the In_Common.zip fixed the problems. I have discovered the cause of these problems - F6F Paint Manager. I ran paint manager and it again corrupted aircraft.cfg to show all F6F-5's and the problem with British cockpits. I think paint manager runs during initial installation.

PRB: Once you reach a certain speed the plane just lifts off the ground. No need to even touch the stick. It has a very short take off!

On a "weird" note. I was having problems taxing before. The tail wheel remained locked no matter what I tried. Now all of a sudden the tail wheel is castering and she turns on a dime? YES, I had the tailwheel unlocked! It's just strange............? Off to complete some more of my Slot tour!

FS is not as good at allowing one to lift the tail as in real life. many of these planes could lift the tail under high power sitting in the chocs. However the threepoint takeoff does have some advantages, the first being that the locked tailwheel helps resist the p-factor induced swing, and secondly, because of gyro effect, quite a swing moment is induced by the act of raising the tail. A takeoff with flaps however may benefit from raising the tail as the flaps tend to blanket the surfaces somewhat in a three point attitude.

I think I've found my favorite livery, the F6F-5 'Dub', as the paint on this one has quite a "sporty" look, so I think I'll make it my personal aircraft (Others must now seek my permision to take her up :costumes:).

The F6F-3 'Spider' seen in the last pic is also quite cool as to me it has more of a rugged and dirty military look.

Any one have tips on trapping the Hellcat on a carrier? I have managed to land on carriers, but not by trapping. The arrestor hook bounces rather than snagging a cable. My speed is usually about 90 kias with the VSI between 300-500.

You landing nose up? Flaring nose high let's the tail hook snag the cable. If you come in too flat you'll miss just about everytime.

Solar Eagle, what airstrip is that that you're taking off from in the first picture with the Hellcat? Is it a default scenery or addon? Looks like a nice spot to launch a few of my warbirds from. I've been looking for a remote-looking airstrip for some of my older birds.

A new one for FS.... The plane has dissapeared from the aircraft selection screen. When I check in the appropriate folder, it's still there with all the correct files?

A Vista thing???

Thanks EgoR64!

@c87, thats's the new Warnervale scenery from Orbx. It has 57sq kilometers of 15cm, 30cm, and 60cm photoscenery with really awesome autogen, though it can be a bit heavy on frames. I've had to dail back a notch from my normal settings but it looks really cool. The airstrip it's self is quite small and rugged. :d Only $20US until the end of the month.
