I was on my way home from Church a couple of Sunday's back, and decided to stop off at the local hobby store. Well, this German gentleman is having a show of all the boats he has made.

These things were HUGE!!! A couple of them are still 'works in progress'. Some have sound systems in them, like engines and anthems, guns, and things.

All made from scratch.....

You cannot see the table that was in front of the sidewalk that had a bunch of smaller ships. Also, there was another to the left, trailered, so I believe they had (he had) 4 trailered ships.

Really nice work!

Not toys though... models. Each if those represents hundreds or thousands of hours of work and thousands of dollars in value.

Roger that SilverFox, but I think some would argue. People with big bucks have called Lamborghinis' 'toys'... unheard of.... arrghh.
 
Many years ago, I saw a video clip on Real People or some other TV show, about a guy who took a 14 foot flat bottom aluminum boat and built a top deck that was a pretty good likeness to a WW2 era battle ship. The main guns would turn and shoot water out of them. Was neat...but did not have the detail of the ones on the trailers...those things are awesome.

I think we covered this in another forum last year, but, nice to bring it back again.

The biggest model/replica so far is the 1/10 scale Yamato at the Yamato Museum, Kure. I remember seeing pictures of them having to crane in the empty hull and then building the thing insitu. More room inside that beast then in my flat.

Does anybody remember when the company Byron Originals used to have their big R/C battle show? (They made a real nice line of 1/3 & 1/5 scale R/C planes and R/C engine fuel. Now they just make fuel.) Everything was 1/5 scale. All airplanes, ships (including aircraft carriers with catapult launches), tanks, etc. Was done with full pyro too along with a few full scale planes as well. I have an old VHS tape of it. I think they stopped having that show in the early to mid 90's.
 
If you go to some of the maritime museums you'll see some large ship models. Nothing the size of the Yamato, but they'll still be pretty impressive.

I always wanted to mount a camcorder in the nose of an R/C B-25, and that saved me the trouble! Wow...
The photogallery is brilliant too, and some of the comments, well...;)

Come to think of it, if you build an R/C model, chances are 99% it will unexpectedly become a random collection of parts at some point.
Why not get some enjoyment out of the experience, and go balls out, the Byron Originals way?
