Really nice F-16 for FS2004?

Lionheart

SOH-CM-2014
Hey all,

I am looking for a really nice, high detail F-16 for FS9. Is there one made?

I would love to get the Aerosoft Falcon, but that is for FSX.

Bill

Kirk Olson produced a nice series of F-16s for FS9....they can be found on Simviation.com, possibly on AVsim and Flightsim as well. I have heard nothing but good things about these planes...I don't fly them as the F-16 really isn't my cup of tea.

I have also the one from Kirk Olsson.
Beautiful bird.

Kirk Olsson has indeed been making F-16s since the early days of FS9, starting with a relatively basic F-16A and working up through a series of two seaters to, IMHO, the cream of the crop, the F-16AM MLU. Links below -

FS2004 RNoAF F-16A MLU M4. An F-16A MLU M4 Fighting Falcon of the Royal Norwegian Air Force. The MLU M4 updates introduces a software tape enabling the aircraft to carry and deliver the latest air to ground munitions like the JDAM. In addition to the already advanced and highly capable AIM-120 AMRAAM, the super agile IRIS-T short range air-to-air missile has been introduced, replacing the AIM-9L Sidewinder. The Pantera targeting pod makes a new dimension in air to ground missions used together with the new HMCS (Helmet Mounted Cueing System). The Pylon Integrated Dispenser System has the ALQ-162 ECM pod built-in and complements ALQ-131 ECM pod, carried on the center line. PIDS also enables carriage of more chaff, housed in the pylon. This model includes special Norwegian modifications to the basic F-16 like the drag chute compartment, night interception search light and a typical RNoAF weapon loadout of AMRAAM's, IRIS-T's, GBU-12's, PIDS and ALQ-131. The VC has been rebuilt for better refresh rate. Reworked flight dynamics and new AB, vapor and exhaust smoke effects finish the package. By Kirk Olsson.[/SIZE]

I have both the just flight and Kirk Olsson vipers. I prefer the Kirk Olsson myself. Especially with the addation of the block 50 panel. Simscape was supposed to be doing a block 30 panel but I think they died.

Eric Marciano's site hosts a new Kirk Olsson model exclusively with what he calls a block 20 panel; it is his old panel updated with Simscape's HUD and his new radar.

General Dynamics F-16 for FS 2004

I have had the Just Flight and Kirk Olsson's F-16 for some time.

For me, Kirk has such a good sense of the F-16 coupled to a very sound flt model that I have had the Just Flight as a 'Hangar Queen' for ages and rarely fly it these days.

I did use SimScape HUD and Eric's radar guage in Eric's panel, but found that the lack of ILS in the HUD was a serious limitation when the weather clamped down. Plus the fact that any panel where I installed the HUD, worked really well until I changed to another a/c, then it caused FS 2004 to lock up and close down. Workable, but irritating.

Did a revision of Eric's panel and inserted gauges from ISG and the original radar from Eric and a simple HUD from the freeware IRIS (ex DSB) Hawk T.1.

The flt model has been tweaked here and there by various bodies and myself. Special effects put in for personal stisfaction.

All in all very happy with the continuing satisfaction I get from this now (in FS terms) quite elderly model.

Aircraft like Kirk's and a rock solid PC set up are the main reasons why I have still not found the need or desire to abandon FS 2004 and my 'Century of Add-ons'.

Until recently I a bit disappointed with the Kirk O F-16 since the VC refuses to be modified easily...great plane none the less and its free. I recommend the modded variants: VIPERDEN and the block 60 (2 seater) versions available at most sites (variants of the Kirk O viper). VC's are little more detailed and just need some textures converted to 32-bit format with (dex bmp). I've recent started a USAF MLU repaint of the Viper Den version (basically the USVIPER with a re-vamped VC). Stay tuned...

Double post...sorry.

Just did a panel merge with Kirks Block 20 and the Viper Nor...loving it. The Block 20 available on Eric M.'s site is a sweet looking bird with a few variants (weapon load outs) and comes with a nice demo of his HUD and Radar. However, being a free-ware cheapskate, I was able to just use the panel from the Viper Nor and ta-DA!..hot Falcon, with great paints by Zsolt (search him on flightsim.com...Again, DXTbmp to convert the textures to 32-bit format). I'll still press ahead with the fictitious MLU version pictured above in some USAF schemes.

Many of your Skysim Mirage repaints are labeled FS2004 .. ! :)

Flightsim.com sometimes screws up the file description!
I was quite surprised my rather long description text of my yesterday's Canberra upload passed their editing...

Cheers,
Markus.

With all this talk, I am going to have to reinstall mine. Wasn't a big fan of the "block 20" panel in comparison to the block 50; I like the working data entry display (DED) that Simscape put together. Love all of the models otherwise.

While it ships(?) with no sound, there are several PW F-100 sound sets on the web.

I did spring for the HUD and radar. :sheep:

Isn't the Just Flight F-16 the old Lago offering? Used to have that on my old PC, but binned it when Kirk's Vipers arrived as they were so much better - to be honest the only advantage it had was the "flight refuelling" function/mission, similar to that offered with their Tornado pack, and I always thought that was more gimmick than use anyway.

Have to echo all the comments above; Kirk's Vipers are still damn good, the best show in town unless you cross to the dark side; and it's worth shelling out a few Euros to get the full Marciano/Simscape additions, the result is little short of superb.

Still, I'm surprised that such a popular plane has never received a better model than Kirk's one.
Sure the F-16 variants made by Kirk look very good, externally. But the virtual cockpit is less functionnal than the default Cessna :/
There are some gauges at least, but you can't click anything.

It's really a pity, because that same F-16 has a detailled set of 2D panels, and when a virtual cockpit hasn't 3D switches, it's quite easy to "copy-paste" a 2D subpanel on a part of virtual cockpit. Unfortunately, if I understood correctly the 3D layout of Kirk's Viper won't allow that...
