Remastered Coral Sea mission pack - Version II

Short question: I love to play the Coral Sea mission pak from Talon and the AF Mission pack from the AF Midway team.

Now I have the following question: I've been playing with the idea of reworking at least Talons ( may he rest in peace ) coral sea mission pak for quite some time, because it's already 16 years old and a lot has changed with the ship models ( Lexington from stuart )....

Now my question, where would I have to ask for permission? or would I be allowed to do so and present my changes here as an optional extension?

Then I have the same first question about replacing a carrier model.

I replaced the VN Lex with Stuart's new Lexington. It is displayed correctly ( here again thanks to Stuart for the Beautiful Ship ) but as an American I can't start on her deck but start immediately in the air. Why is that? What do I have to change here? And is there an exact list of exactly which ships were present in the combat groups? I don't only want to update the carriers, but also the other ships. Here I would also be interested, what would be the best models? Otherwise I would simply orientate myself on the last completed ships or ship classes.

EDIT:

I found this list of units involved.

Would the composition of the combat groups also be based on this list?

What do you think of the idea to at least give Talons Set a little update? With the airplanes I would stay even with the AF planes, or first of all .

I still wish you a nice Sunday,

ElsnerMarkus,

As long as you include the original readme files, you should be okay. I believe pen32Win's email is still active, have you tried contacting him?

I may have it around somewhere...

Short question: I was in Roland Emmerich's Midway film yesterday - went in with zero expectations and enthusiastically came out again.

He clearly shows the point of view of both sides and I can only recommend him to everyone:

I have now reworked the CS Strike and Counterstrike as well as All AF Midway missions for myself as far as the porters are concerned.

I used Usio's versions of the Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu and Soryu on Japanese Bears.

For the American carriers GMax USS Yorktown Class and Lexington Class by Stuart. Now my question, should I upload the revised missions with the new ships?

ICh suche übrigens noch ein Trägermodell, mit welchem ich die VN Shoho ersetzen könnte, oder gibt es da noch keines?

ElsnerMarcus: My German is too rusty but I'm glad you are redoing the missions pack. Talon (RIP) would be honored, I'm sure. How was the film? I am going to see it this afternoon.

Also, I am finishing up my USS Essex CV9 campaign revision with new ships on Rumbaflappy mesh. Would you feel up to helping me flight test the missions?

Are there any other models for the Japanese carrier Shoho or is the VN Navy the only one?

Then I came across a probable one.

My plane does not start on the deck of the carrier as soon as I replace it, but is in the air.

What do I have to change in the mission planner?

@SW07, Yes, I would like to help you, you still have my email address, I think.

Quick Status Update.

I have replaced the AF Dauntless SBD 3 with the SBD 3 of the FDG Team ( here you can see the airbrakes )

I replaced the Japanese AF Kates and Vals with the Kates and Vals of the Zuikaku and Shoukaku from the PHP project.

I am still looking for a replacement for the Devastator, otherwise I would only think of the overhaul of the CFS 2 original Devastator.

Next step will be the adaptation of the fleet units to ships and types, I don't know yet which models I want to use.

Screen is from the Attack on the Yorktown Mission, after the Ship is Hit by Several Bombs.

Greetings.... Are you aware that there was a update to the Devastator awhile back? It was for the Paul Clawson plane. It has pre-war and Midway planes in the d/l and might be what you are looking for over the OH version. It can be found here at .....
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=52&sort=d&nameid=TUV&page=2&pp=20

Umm Fibber, that's the SB2U Vindicator, not the TBD Devastator. :playful: I don't know of any newer models for the Devastator unfortunately.

CK....

:wavey:. I remember the Vindicator update but I also believe that there was a later update to the OH update. I have it here somewhere but will have to look for it. I think I accidently put in the link for the Vindicator and not the TBD. My bad.:banghead:

CK........

.........it looks like P. Clawson did a 2004 plane and that was updated to FSX and probably what I was thinking of. However, I did find a reference for the 1US TBD but sadly that was on a computer drive long time gone. Smashing Times did a update but I think that just was on texs.

Fibber

That's what I thought about the Clawson model. It can be converted to CFS2 but it is definitely not an improvement over the stock TBD - other than it having a rudimentary VC.

The 1US TBD is the stock model with a 1% air file and a Smashing Time skin. It's available here still:

And per the above, you are right that Smashing time did some textures for the stock TBD. They are available separately here too:

Lexington skin:

Enterprise skin:

If I want to take the JMK Fubuki in the Mission Builder to replace the Vanilla Destroyer of the japanese, will I be shown the model of a carrier? How can I fix it? Or is Usios destroyer the only one that represents the Fubuki class? Otherwise I would leave the vanilla ships inside.

I'm also in the process of giving the destroyers the correct names, nothing more with DD 234, etc.

I use this for the Update of the Ships

The Japanese missions of Talon's beautiful Coral Sea Mission Package are revised.

The American missions s9 are almost finished as well, I only have to replace the destroyers and cruisers.

Die Amerikanischen Missionen s9ind fast ebenfalls fertig, ich muss auch hier nur noch die Zerstörer und Kreuzer austauschen

All ships/airplanes replaced by newer models, the Shoho has an A5M Claude squadron added for defense.

I think I'll be done with everything tonight.

May Talon be remembered forever for his great work on CFS 2.

You will never be forgotten!

Finish

I'm completely finished, the only thing that hasn't been fixed is that the planes aren't starting on the deck of the carrier or on the airfield, but are already in the air, so above the carrier / airfield the mission starts.

Small example. As soon as I had replaced the VN_LExington carrier model with the new one from Stuart, I could no longer lift off from the carrier, but started ABOVE it.

What is the reason for this and how can I fix this last little problem?

I could of course upload the revised package now, but I'd like to iron this out.

All I can think of is to make sure the waypoint 1 of the layer aircraft is set to "take off." Its "mission" might have changed when you swapped out the carriers.

Hello Greg, I sent you the mission package by email, because I can't find the error concerning the starts. In one case I changed WP 1 to base, but still the plane takes off in the air....

Hi: Markus:

I will check my mail as soon as I get home. The problem I have is that my MB is not working on my Win 10 laptop. I have to set up my Win 7 system to open the missions in MB. I will get to it this evening probably. :running:

Note: just got home and no email. Do you have my correct address? I'll PM you just in case.
