Repaint request (I don't have the program to do it)

No Please do not listen to them.

If you do you will find yourself just getting dragged into this hobby deeper and deeper.

One day you will wake up and you will find you are a developer not just a Flight Simmer.

I feel bad now, it always starts this way...

First your splashing paint...

Then before you know it scenery modeling and code writing.

Just another lost soul feeding the habits of other lost souls.

:biggrin-new:

It gets worse than even that. Some day you find yourself idly wondering if flying one of these aircraft into that are of scenery the missus bought you three years ago might be fun. Then you’re surprised to find this flight simulator program thingy isn’t at all bad...

And Here Is The Result

And now.......here..............s

TAW-4 VT-28 I liked this one I found, hope you do.

On the ground - Military Parking 1 - KNGP NAS Corpus Christi TX

T6B Ellis 1 custom designed ejection seat labels

Ellis 4 turning downwind and climbing

Ellis 3 a shot from my wingman LT Fojt

Ellis 2 and the other side

BTW the pilot and instructor HGU-55/P Gentex helmets were customized too to match some other photos I had of pilots in the cockpit. My ol' buddy Adrian was really fond of saying "We do it right...or we don't do it!" God bless him-RIP! :loyal:

After I share this in a PM with Goshawk45 since he requested it he has it first, I will upload it here to the Warbirds Library.

Nice...

A nice repaint :applause:. It will find a place in my hangar when published...

Thanks for this work in advance.

Lookin' good

That really looks cool! I have the ai traffic from NAS Corpus Christi I am going to open up and I also downloaded the MAIW AI T6B Texan II and will be repainting them to replace all the T34s. It will take some time because they have both VT-27 and VT-28 authentically every aircraft. It still looks nice with them anyway. This was done back in 2015 before they were all replaced. I'll share it for all those with KNGP scenery if you want. It will be in the Library here. thank you for sharing it and I'm glad you are having fun with it.

That would be awesome.

Me And My Big Ideas

That would be awesome.
I should have opened up the AI.bgl before I said anything, (just kidding) BUT... like my complete squadron with all the noseart for the B24J and the 461st, I love a challenge. There are 97 aircraft in TAW-4, VT-27 and VT-28 in the flight plan each one with a unique serial number but what else do I have to do for the next week or two LOL!!! :banghead: :dizzy:

Keep an eye on the post for the completed AI Flight Plan for KNGP Corpus Christi NAS.

While you're at it, do you mind sharing your T-34 AI.bgl, too?
:)uncomfortableness: Feeling a bit guilty asking, but I have a soft spot for T-34's)

Thanks :)

Heres the link to MIAW, they have the whole package. You just have to convert the traffic .BGL to fsx format using Ai flight planner tool http://stuff4fs.com/open.asp?Folder=AIFP&JS=TRUE
Heres the link to MAIW Corpus https://militaryaiworks.com/downloa...ited-states-of-america/226-nas-corpus-christi
and the link to convert the textures of the T-34 and T-44 to dds format for better frames https://militaryaiworks.com/downloa...6-maiw-nbai-beechcraft-t-34-mentor-conversion https://militaryaiworks.com/downloa...-beech-king-air-family-conversion-fsx-version. That should get you up and running with AI T-34's. A good nas corpus scenery is in the flightsim.com library and works with the packages.

Chrome

As I am trying to learn this repainting magic, how do I do chrome on any aircraft?

https://itstillworks.com/12568376/metallic-effect-in-gimp

Here is a link for you if you're using GIMP. FSX and P3D rely on the alpha channel to create any shine on an aircraft. Pure white R255 G255 B255 is dead flat and pure black R0 G0 B0 is totally transparent in FSX. The amount of shine is determined by how dark a gray you put in the alpha channel. Are you familiar with DXTBMPx it shows you the alpha channel in any DDS or 32bit bmp texture file. It is a free download and is really fantastic. I believe there are tutorials for it as well. I have been using it for a number of years now. All repainting is trial and error and experience. The beauty of computer art is its forgiveness. Unlike a painting or physical model, a mistake takes a lot to correct but with repainting you just say "UNDO" in your EDIT and start again.

Thanks, I will give it a shot. I have DXTBMPx but I have no clue how to use it.

GIMP is different

I had to Google how to do metallic finish for you in GIMP I thought that it is much different than either Adobe Photoshop or Corel Paintshop Pro both of which I have and use. In DXTBMP you can open up DDS or BMP files that don't open by themselves in the other programs. You then specify what program you are using to edit the file like GIMP or Paintworks, Photoshop etc. see the shots below:

DXTBMP Opening Screen

When you double-click the shortcut on your desktop this is the screen that you will see with nothing on it. Go up to the menu and click file and open up a texture folder. Find the file you want to work on like this one which is WSAI_T-6II_T You can see in the screenshot below that it is the entire aircraft. In most cases you will have a number of folders depending on the designer. This is a 32 bit bmp file. Most FSX aircraft textures are DDS files which are smaller. I can't possibly teach you how to repaint in the one thread but I would be happy to work with you in another way. Repainting is a lot of fun BUT in the beginning it can be very frustrating. Every aircraft it seems is in a different format and every time you want to do a repaint you learn how to use their layout. Here is MAIW's AI Texan II

49829302303_acfdc681c5_b.jpg
MAIW T6B Texan II This is a pleasure to work with because everything is on one page. The alpha channel is in the upper right corner and is edited on its own. You can see it is light gray giving some sheen to the aircraft's finish. Lesson for today.

PS: If I am trying to sound like an authority, I'm far from it and still have much to learn from the masters here that I have learned from and respect. If any or you have something to add for him please "pipe in".

Thanks, that gives me a bit more understanding now, I will try it out later today.

A Little Repainting Help

Here is a link to a PDF I just downloaded for you from Premier Aircraft Design a premier freeware developer for many years.

+1 tgycgijoes on Corpus, I was just looking at doing them for P3D and figured it can't be that hard to replace the "E" to "G" tail code and change bunos from the MAIW NAS Whiting T-6B package. I'm trying to work on USN paints for AI models and just need to figure out how to get the squadron markings moved over to the texture, say if I have a source pic or scale model decal sheet. Thanks for more gouge on repainting.

Photoshop

Open up the WSAI_T-6II-T in Adobe Photoshop. Beautifully there is no weathering of the orange or white so its easy to sample and on new layers overlay the E and the serial nos. Then in another group of new layer(s) just recreate new ones in Amarillo USAF type font in black in the proper size type. It's just going to take patience to do 97 new textures. Again its a really nice file all on one sheet.
