Resuming work at the workshop

It was a joke ...no matter if one guy wishes it will be available, modeling is just an hobby for me!

Hey Gaston,

It seems I have missed your update during my absence. I really like the shape of this Dewoitine :encouragement:, but I wonder whether they were as highly polished as your version :biggrin-new:

Cheers,
Huub

Hi Huub!

You are probably right, texturing is not my cup of tea as we say in France.
I am trying to represent a D 501 of squadron II/5 Lafayette at the 1937 Zurich meeting. I guess she was very prepared to be smart (lol)!

I will give those who want it the UV mapping for the fuselage and wings to make other more relevant paintings.(2048 or 4096).

Now, she looks as those screens :

But, today it's a long way until she is avalaible.

Now, she can fly!

Hi,
After working on more realistic textures, I can say "this is the end of the beginning" ....I think someone already said that (lol) !

Big work to achieve....but some screens :

the first version still scheduled for the end of the year if ...

PS : I missed this one !

Although there might still be a lot of work to do, I think it already looks gorgeous. And again this is one of the aircraft I never expected to see in FSX.

Cheers,
Huub

Hello Huub,

It's more encouraging now that I can just relax by flying..But working on the VC is really a big work.
I had a hard time giving her a passable silhouette.

Bumping....

Hello,

Back from hollidays! Work is 50% done. I am quite late...just a quick and dirty video from a test fly ....I am working on the CV but texturing is not complete.

Thanks for the video Gaston, great looping :biggrin-new:. It will be an interesting aircraft to fly, with the original French gauges :encouragement:

Cheers,
Huub

Hello,
Oops ...It's really a heavy job! The CV is 65% done. Modeling French gauges of the time is a hard work that begins with a painstaking search for documentation to do something quite realistic. For example the gauge shown is the electric generator (magneto). Above this box a launch command flares because the French military aircraft of that time had no landing lights.
Everything is done in 3D and animated. But could anyone make an effect that could simulate a flare? This could be controlled by this case.

Fortunately Blender allows work on different layers!

Hi,

Some news,I am overwhelmed by the problems and the number of details to take into account but but I have some progress.

First, the smoothing was quite bad...I had to improve it, that's done for now as you can see :

attachment.php

French gauges of this time were very specific and you have to create them from scratch like these ones :

The radio set

and some gauges related to the weapons and fuel .

The CV is quite done, the compressed air starter Viet and some cables remain to be positioned, some pictures :

That's all folks!

Aghh! I remember it! When I was child I had this model of D.510 in 1/72:

Heller-172-Dewoitine-D510-French-Plastic-Aircraft-Model.jpg

Nice plane, something like Ryan ST but for the one person.
Nice work :wavey:.

Nice plane, something like Ryan ST but for the one person.

....Ahhhh.....that'd be one heck of a Ryan ST......re-pleat with a vee-twelve engine, wing mounted machine guns, and a twenty-mil' Hispano firing through the prop hub.

......I want me one of THOSE!

Hi,

Some progress but not enough to my taste. Alpha version will be delayed to november early days. Cockpit is quite finish with
right gauges (french ones of this time) at right places. some exceptions due to the lack of documentation,
but I continue looking for.
Now I am coding specific gauges and I would like the operations to be most in line with those of the time. It's very different from what we know
today, very French like, for example, the engine starting by compressed air + gas in the cylinders ignited by sparks from
a manual magneto !

Some screens (textures are subject to change) :

The cockpit (with perspective deformations due to heavy zoom)

before landing in your simulator, end of year...sorry!

Note that this aircraft was put into service the same year as the Boeing peashooter ...

It really looks absolutely stunning Gaston and its always great to receive another update from you.

Before WWII nearly every country had its own technical history and traditions and approach to seal with things. Your model really is a French as French can be. I assume that even the throttle will work the "wrong way" around :biggrin-new:.

When we look at this model now, we see an aircraft which was obsolete when WWII started. I guess that's the way our brains work. But when it was released it must have been an absolute sensation. To put things in perspective; this Dewoitine was introduced already two years before the British introduced the Gloster Gladiator as their new front line fighter........... And it had its first flight even long before the Germans flew their Heinkel He.51 for the first time.

Again, thanks for the update and as always really looking forward to fly it :encouragement:

Huub

Hello,

The throttle works the wrong way of course!

Just a screen more accurate of the CV :

Compressed air starter and radio set are more visible.

JMC

Impressive work! I know I'm only repeating myself, but I'm really impressed by the effort you put in this model :encouragement:

Cheers,
Huub
