Resurrecting an older model...

To all,

In preparation for a Malta-based campaign, I strolled through the archives looking for some multi-lod Beauforts. Merlin2's models certainly fit the bill, once I slapped a bit o' wax on the model.

But is a way to create prop textures for the model?

Paging...

Stefano K !

Rami, Kelticheart is the Basement's resident go-to guy for custom prop stuff... mayhaps he can help you ?

It would appear that Merlin2's Beauforts either don't have the /prop discs mapped for textures or (slight possibility) the .bmp was not included in the uploads, which is unlikely. Only I could make that boo-boo repeatedly ... It would be an easy enough fix but would probably require the source files or possibly some scasm wizardry..

Beaufort props and nose window

Hi friends: Merlin2 here:

The props have no texture, only colour, so they can't be changed except through the source files.

If someone would like to do a rework of my beauforts I would not mind at all.
I could pass along my source files; it was a great challenge and pleasure for me to do them; but so much work . . . I am especially thankful for Jerry Beckwith's airfile; the plane feels heavy.

On the other hand, I have been trying to build a bomb-aimer window for the beaufort; It is almost there, but there is a display problem. The window will not draw the sky, only the ground. In the attachment you will see the day-sky as black=no image; can anyone help with that?

I think the window should be fun--there are enough gauges that you can still fly the plane while having a good view of the target. The gauges are intended to represent the navigator's instruments (nav and bomb aimer were shared by the nose airman in the beaufort).

I still love your Beauforts Merlin2. Every time I try to sink a tanker bound for North Africa I am reminded of the extremely high rate of attrition amongst the torpedo squadrons operating in the MTO.

The only thing I can think of that would give those results with your bomb site is if that black area is not true black (RGB code 0,0,0). If it is even a tiny bit off from being true black (such as 0,0,1) then it will not be transparent when viewed in the sim.

OBIO

Hi Merlin2,

As per what OBIO said, but if not that then check out the main panels Y axis in FS Panel Studio...

In FSPS, load your panel, click on window then set default position. Ensure the Y axis slider (left side) is all the way to the top.

You could probably achieve the same editing the panel.cfg - but I'm not familiar that way..

Looks good btw :jump:

Howdy Merlin;

If that's what I think it is and it's a "guage" bomb aimer, like the one Philippe Burnage did for his Mossies you might want to drop him a line. He's not active in CFS2 anymore but there's a lot of knowledge there. I'm sure he'd help you if he can.

That window could also be retrofitted into Thicko's Blenheim IVs! Great stuff merlin2:ernae:

Beaufort rebuild

It looks like OldWheat is going to have a go at the Beaufort series; I will be sending him my G-max files to work with.

This would be a good time to chime in with any suggestions for bettering the plane.

I wish that the nose view blackness were as simple as not being a true black; but that is not the problem

Perhaps, AGAS 5, if OldWheat can't make sense of it, I will send a copy of the panel to you.

thanks everybody!

As I don't that much about FSDS & even less about GMax. It might be the time to look for volunteers that have more knowledge with the latter program. Sorry Merlin, I guess that i just 'ass'ummed that they were .FSC files. However, I did manage to eliminate the black sky with the bombsite but the weird 'wiggly' effect is still there. Perhaps (most likely) it is an alignment issue as mentioned by Obio & Agas 5..

HI OldWheat:
glad to hear some progress on the bombsight! Please send me a copy fo the bombsight when you have finished with it. Sorry the Beaufort files are Gmax. I think Gmax is a great program, but definitely a challenge to learn.

best
