I started visiting some of the Idaho grass strips I had done for FSX. None so far have anything other than the strip so I may venture into Developers Mode, at least to try my hand at populating a few just to get my feet wet. One that I wanted to visit more than any other was Big Creek, but sadly what should be a nice grass strip is solid concrete. I'm pretty sure that's not the case, lol. . .so that was disappointing.

I then flew to Johnson Creek and it took 3 tries to get on the ground due to my failure to remember I had flaps, lol. I'm flying the KitFox Speedster (tundra version) which is great for this kind of flying but use of the flaps is cautionary as you go from 110 to 50 in a few seconds. Great airplane though. Final stop was Wilson Bar where "scud running" was the technique to employ as following the river suddenly puts you at the end of the runway after a sharp bend in the river. I had to go around, lol. . .flaps, flaps, flaps!
 
I did similar flights as usual: after seeing some video on Youtube of some bush pilots playing around and showing the beautiful area :)
Of course, as you saw already, most of the default small strips lack even basic buildings.... However, the bright side is that there are tons of freeware sceneries covering these strip.

The nice thing about flightsim.to is their scenery map, it really helps finding addons.
Granted, these sceneries are not always beautiful, they often rely on freeware libraries that need to be downloaded at first, and sometimes the download is not available anymore or isn't compatible with the current version of MSFS... but it's worth it.

And if you really feel like creating some nice scenery for MSFS, then I'm definitely looking forward to seeing your creations !
 
Ed, here's a couple of shots of the two "creeks" mentioned above. As they said there are quite a few back country strips available on flightsim.to.
And I agree with this "copy&paste" of Daube's post,

I have to get more acquainted with the MSFS side of addons. Things that were ingrained from years of FSX and P3D have been replaced with new options I haven't fully discovered.

By the way John, that is Big Creek as I remembered it. Thanks for the HU guys, very much appreciated.
