REX4 Texture Direct now axailable

Existing REX Essential and REX Essential PLUS OverDrive customers will receive a $5.00 USD discount on checkout!
Thanks for HU,
Is this a completly new download which will make REX Essential obsolete or does it combine itself with the other REX already installed? Went to purchase over at Flightsim Store which states you get a $5 discount if you purchased REX Essential PLUS from them, been right through to PAYPAL and nothing given and nothing asking if you have purchased REX Essential so leaving it until I see/hear what and how you get the discount.
Regards
Timm

I have REX Essentials Overdrive. Not wanting to be skeptical, but I would need to know what is so improved with REX4, that I would spend the cash for it?

Hi Navy Chief,
Just been thinking that as well, So might just pass on this after all.

The textures are very detailed, from what I can see, even compared to Rex Essential +Overdrive, which I have. the website also says they are much faster and easier on framerates.

I managed to get in to buy it last evening, but have not been able to download anything, apparently due to traffic. Will wait to download later. Apparently the discount is automatic, if you have registered your software. (I hope you did.) I bought all my REX Essential stuff from PCAviator, however I bought REX Latitude from Flightsim Store. The discount was automatically applied in the final price at final checkout point. (PCAviator wasn't showing REX4 yet.) It ended up costing me $30.40USD last evening.

Now, if I can just get P3Dv1.4 AND P3Dv2 to quit crashing after 15-20minutes, no given reason or error, that I can find. FSX works fine, just stutters bad. :heart-borken:

I also have REX Essential Overdrive, but I can't understand what you mean by "The textures are very detailed, from what I can see, even compared to Rex Essential +Overdrive". I'm not being critical, but I don't understand how detailed textures can be. I was also looking at the new version of Active Sky, which claims to include an upgraded weather engine. I wonder how much better they can be?

Ian.

Well, I did try the trial version of ASN and that was something I really had to buy!! No more investments to this hobby for some time. So, sorry REX, Overdrive is good enough for me.

Off their website:

REX Texture Direct is a NEW integrated global environment texture, effects and audio add-on that takes advantage of the new core features of PREPAR3D v.2 while enhancing both FSX and PREPAR3D v.1.4 to never before seen heights.

Tailored to low AND high-end systems, REX Texture Direct is comprised of over 16GB of material ranging from standard resolution to high-definition choices.....

I hi-lite those areas because I have a feeling the really big advantage is going to be for P3D Ver2 owners and folks who run FSX with High end machines. There may be some advantages over the Hi-def material they introduced with the "Overdrive" update, but I'm hesitant to try this because I think it's going to be a "per system" thing whether you see any "never before seen heights" of clarity and it would also depend on how "into" taking the time to tweak your weather you are. It isn't all that important to me, so I won't mess with it, but for someone who wants to fly in the exact weather system for a given area, or set up an elaborate weather scenario. . .it might be worth the time and money.

Unzipping it now, so I'll see how it compares to REXe+OD (which I'm already running)... Figured for the cost of 4 or 5 pints it was worth a punt, will probably last me longer than the beers would! ;)

Downloading now... Tried downloading last night (PCAviator) it would take me one day, started again today and it stopped at 400 MB. I have restarted again and about 12 hours to go... Hopefully I will get it this time :icon_eek:

The best angle for the Cinematic water theme; ( I miss the Sparkling theme )

After restore FSX Shader from FS Water Configurator, and adding (REX4) Constant Experimental waves setting, some screens below

One more post and I no longer going to disturb anyone here

The wave animation are the best ever we had in FSX, they make perfect illusion of 3d
But there were other options in waves I miss in this version!
(I hope my English is understood)

So to get clarification on this...

It's up upgrade of the textures over what we have with REX with OD right now.

If I get this, do I run it alongside with REX Essentials + Overdrive? (For the weather and other features?)

Trying to figure out how this integrates...
