SOH-CM-2023
Hey guys,

Before i pull out my paint brush, i was wondering if anyone knows of a Bong repaint somewhere for B24 Guy's OH P-38? My SOH download searches only produced a CFS3 job so far.

Thanks in advance...

BC

2 models already made:

one for Griphon P-38 at Simviation

one for D. Copley's P-38 at Flight Sim

Nothing I know for Stock or The B-24 guys' p-38

its funny the man serviced flying the P-38 in combat for years, but when he was put into the P-80, it killed him in an accident in California.........so sad.

Already have the Bong skins for these two...that's why i want his skin for the OH too. It's odd that we have OH skins for a number of other Lightning aces, but not the top US ace of WW2 and all Lightning drivers. Well... i can take care of that little oversight.

Thanks for the replies.

yes and no

Hi BC
One's never been done exclusively for the OH.
You may or not know that I demirrored and tweaked an ancient 2000 stocker Bong paint for the OH in 2007. :friday:
Having said that... I'd sure like to have one by you.

The reason Bong wasn't included in my series is that that I could find no complete photos or profiles of an F model he flew. I limit my skins to be as historically accurate as possible.

Thanks Dirty!!!!!

Rgr that Smash...and thanks for the others!

Hellcat, i have your modded stocker paint scheme. But speaking of authenticity, was that Marge noseart and the victory marks posted on both sides of the gondola or just the left side as i've only seen in B/W photos? This looks like a simple cut/paste and touch-up job. Gotta add the serials too...:typing:

simple cut/ paste..touch-up..taxed my limited skills

Don't know BC....it was both on the original paint;;;if it's only on the left side I'm ticked...but then I didn't bother to check.:friday:

Hope you'll do one.

"Richard Bong P-38 Skin V2

This File contains a skin painted to match World War 2 ace Richard Bong's P-38. All the nose art was reproduced from actual photos of the P-38 that will be housed at the Richard I. Bong Heritage Center (http://www.cpinternet.com/~bong/).

Changes:

- Repainted antiglare strips to more closely match real plane

- Repaint plane surface to look more silver and less grey

- Created Damage Skin

Installation:

1. Be sure to backup the orginal p38f_lightning_t.bmp file before installing the new file.

2. Copy the "p38f_lightning_t.bmp" file to the texture directory of your P-38f (ex. C:\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2\AIRCRAFT\P38F_LIGHTNING\TEXTURE).

3. Try it out.

Hope you like it."

"simple cut/ paste..touch-up..taxed my limited skills"...

No bro...you misunderstood me. I meant this project of mine looks like it'll be a simple C/P and touch-up job as i step into it, not your work.

Just to add too the mix

This P-38 is dedicated to her....the plane is called "Marge". The nose art is a picture of his girlfriend that was blown up and varnished to the aircraft. This process didn't last long and new pictures had to be attached to the aircraft every few missions. All photos of this plane with this nose art are always in black and white, so it's always been assumed the photo of Marge on the nose was a black and white photo. In actual fact, the black and white photo was hand colourized by a 5th Fighter Command A-2 (Intelligence) member Jim Nichols, who Bong asked to take care of the artwork he had in mind.

Nice photo...i know the girlfriend story of his nose art and the fact that it was actually a blown-up, colorized rendering of a little b/w shot. But i'm still left wondering about the double-sided question...
