Roof damage after the perfect storm

Saturday Linda was raking up some leaves in the back yard and noticed some shingles spread out from our roof on the ground. She also noticed them in the front yard too...lol Dinning hurricane Isabel we had some roof damage and I just hired out the repairs which was minor. This time I had a friend that did some roofing go up there and see what damage was done. He said you might wanna contact your insurance company this time. He said there were plenty of shingles missing and also some hail damage. We didn't notice it at first but we had some water damage in one of the spare bedrooms at both ends of the house and a small leakage in the attic over top of the garage..lol.The roof isn't that old and he said he didn't see anything that was done wrong to cause this. Sometime this week or next week I have a adjuster coming out. My friend says he thinks they redo all the shingles, in other words a new roof.That would be nice. I have never turned a claim in ...in thirty years...way my luck runs all they will do is a patch job...insurance companies sometimes try to cut corners and get it done as cheap as possible.I don't know if he will even climb up to the second story to see all the damage and look around. Tis a long way up.:monkies: What do you guys think will happen.
 
Well, you could do nothing and leave it like it is ... but I don't think yer that dumb ...

So I suspect, depending on the number of missing shingles, and the amount of damaged shingles based on the hail ... I'd say you contact the insurance company and get a new roof.

But that's just me and my humble opinion. :mixedsmi:

Another thing you might want to consider is how your neighbors were affected as well. If everyone in the neighborhood needs roof repair, then it might be awhile before a crew can get to your house. Columbus got hit with a severe wind storm over a year ago and the roofing companies are still working hard to get caught up on all the repairs.

So you might have to take a two-step approach. Temporary repairs to prevent further damage and then a full-repair.
 
That's why I went to a metal roof up north... A lot more durable, plus it's easier to install and repair if needed. ;)

GT,....you're right,..a metal roof is the way to go. But the cost can be staggering,...depending of course the size of your roof. Even a humble sized metal roof will set one back a good penny.
 
We have some Blue FEMA specials left over down here. I bet you could pick up one cheap. :icon_lol:
