RTW 2015 Practice 1

Drained the fuselage tank down to 25 gallons. Switched to the wing tanks. Didn't fill up the drop tanks for this short hop across the lake. Brought them along though. Might need them sometime. 60 knot wind out of the west. Be nice if that was a tail wind... ETE 0:40.

Most of the legs will be props anyway, but... I wouldn't give up on the jets. They are a bit challenging. They need to be flown more "by the numbers" than the WW-II props, and they don't slow down very easily. And they overspeed as soon as your attention drifts away for a moment. Just takes a bit of practice, and that's fun! :)

The baton is back at EGPH and free.

Throughout my flight I had to keep hitting my "B" key to reset the altimeter.

On final it did it no less than 5 times as I was IFR runway 25, just transitioned to 2,000 feet from 5,000.

Not only have I flown that approach several times in FS9 and FSX, I have done it in real life.

There is nothing to hit inside the outer marker at 2,000 Feet. Runway elevation is 1181.

IFR indicated a good approach and glide slope maintaining 150 KIAS, gear down, just transitioning to full flaps, <1.0 mile from touchdown.

I'm your props guy in this race. Jets are just not cutting it for me.

Oh, that was dumb. Did I check to see if there was lights at HEMM? No! Are there lights? Ha! No. That was a scary landing.

Baton is released at HEMM.
