RTWR 2013 Open Practice Thread

FSX took its customary dump on me half way through. Restarted in FS9, but in FS9 I can't type the letter "V" in the GPS, so went back to FSX. This time in a P-38J.

I assume that's because you have remapped the "V" key in FS9 to a command that takes you out of the GPS ?

You CAN use the GPS500 Crsr/left/right 'knob' to step through the alpha/num in the input lines
EG. push --> (direct to wpt)
Input line should show highlighted - click on smaller (inner) left arrow -- this should now flash cursor over first 'character'
use same smaller (inner) arrow to increase (right) or decrease (left) thru the alphabet & numbers
then use larger (outer) arrow to move to next position and repeat.
Using the GPS295 is the same except you have to figure out whether its the left/right or up/down arrows :icon_lol:

Thanks Rob, I'll try that. Odd thing is, there are other single-key commands that I left in, like "I", and I can type that letter. And today I can type "V"s now...

I have the baton, UNOO - USNR, P-51B.

It looks like after the New Caledonia required stop, we'll have to come back around the "Pacific Rim" through Alaska to get back to the Americas, since there is no way across the Pacific directly that involves legs shorter than 1500 nm, the max allowed for any wildcard. And since we won't need wildcards for the "Pacific Rim Route" it probably makes sense to use up the wildcards getting "Out of Russia". Or did I miss somthing important (likely).

I thought I'd better crawl out from under my rock and see where we are in the practice. :wavey::icon_lol:

Looking at where we are now and where we need to go there are a couple of options as I see it (using GE to plot the rough routes). We need to get to NWWK (New Caledonia) as that is a required airport and therefore it would make sense to go via RORY as that is a bonus.

Regarding wildcards I looked at possible routes out of Russia and through China to RORY and it can easily be done with 'normal' practice legs so to me it would make sense to burn up wildcards from NWWK back to the Pacific Rim then take the old and familiar 'northern route' into Alaska (do we still need to get the 'two above' requirement and what about the 'two below'?)

Due to the wildcard length limit we can't copy last year's FlightSim route to Hawaii from New Caledonia as it's just too far to manage (we could possibly get to Hawaii but not back to the NA mainland).

Seems like a typical race leg so far, black as the Ace of Spades outside interspersed with severe local thunderstorms!

ETE 20 mins.

(do we still need to get the 'two above' requirement and what about the 'two below'?)
I just plotted the route so far in FS Nav and I can see we already have the 'two above' taken care of but still need the 'two below' so that means a visit to Aus/NZ as we head for NWWK. We can't make the jump across the Southern Pacific to Chile due to wildcard length so we will have to come through the USA and pick up a couple of airports in South America before heading back to Florida otherwise we will miss the 'continental requirement'.
