RTWR 2013 Open Practice Thread

I'm guessing north. I have the baton, YSNF - NWWK, DeHavilland Mosquito CF-FZG.

- Paul

On course for New Cal. Weather is pretty. YSNF, in FSX, is at the bottom of a deep cravass. I think I even saw a puma in that cravass. I used the 6000 foot runway, hoping it would be enough. Put the flaps down one notch for take off, wound up the Merlins whilst standing on the brakes, and let ler rip. It worked. ETE 1:20-ish.

- Paul

Southern end of New Caledonia has come into view on the horizon, off the starboard bow. 238 miles from NWWK. ETE 0:45.

- Paul

80 miles out. Probably 20 min or so. I'm going to fly over the field so see which end has the fewest palm trees, and see if there's any control towers or TACAN stations on the runway.

I just checked it out for you in FSX (I'm assuming you are using FSX for the leg) and there is currently 7 knts of wind at 130 degrees, no control towers or TACANs on the runways. Rwy 06 might be the best option as there are some tall trees close to the fence at the other end.

Edit: just checked again and the wind is spinning around the compass dial so no idea where it will be when you get here.

NOTAM? Where's the fun in that? I was hoping for a palace uprising! :icon_lol:

Here is a provisional route across the islands to Chile (unless someone can find a better way given leg distances):

NVVW - NFFN - NFTV - NIUE - NTGA (WC) - NTTX - NTGJ - SCIP (WC) - SCFX (WC) - SCSE

From SCSE we need to go south to get the two below and then north to get the required.

Sounds like a plan to me!
