Rufes not showing up in free flight

Hi Everyone,

I have both the Lindell/van Duin/da Silva and the Akemi versions of the Nakajima A6M2N Rufe floatplane. Neither will show up in free flight but they will work in missions.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kevin

I'm having the same issue with the PBY Cat. Check the airfile and cfg. make sure all of the names match the model. I think thats the issue with the PBY.

Hey guys........

.don't forget to check the sound file and make sure there is something there. If is is aliased ensure that you have the plane it is aliased to. Many of Akemis' were aliased to the Zero.

Thanks guys, but I've checked those items as well as others, all to no avail.

All my other seaplanes work in free flight. :confused:

I would have imagined that an aliasing problem would have not been the answer to an experienced CFS2 veteran like Kdriver.

The aliasing concept in Microsoft flight simulators comes from way back, long before CFS2 was released.

This no-show bug must definitely be elsewhere. It's definitely quite a puzzle and a challenge to pinpoint it.

I have been thinking about it since Kdriver started this thread, but the answer is still nowhere to be found.

Cheers!

Kelti.....

....only sent that as a reminder as it does come from waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back, but sometimes people overlook\forget the obvious things.

As a side thought, does anyone know if there is a limit on planes in Free Flight? I have a bunch that won't show up and some of the SP's are in it.

Hi Fibber,

yes you're right. As to FF, isn't it the same obnoxious 100, more or less, limit per installed airplanes? You should also get that nonsensical message saying that "so and so is corrupted. Can't load Quick Combat mission." or something similar. Obviously something like "Hey, dude, your hangar just ran out of parking space. Get rid of some airplanes, you knucklehead!", which tells more precisely what's going than the previous one, couldn't be thought of.

If you don't get the reached limit error message, then you and Kdriver must be sharing the same aircraft-eating bug!.......:biggrin-new:

Seriously, if you don't get any system error message, just a bunch of no-shows, my best bet would be checking all of the aircraft.cfg involved. Check the following:

[fltsim.0]
title=FM-2 Wildcat
sim=fm2_wildcat <------------- does this match fm2_wildcat.air and fm2_wildcat.dp?
model= <---------------- perhaps the model folder has an extension that should be entered here too (ex.: /model.1)?
panel= <---------------- perhaps the panel folder has an extension that should be entered here too?
sound=2 <---------------- perhaps this sound folder does not exist?
texture=marianas <---------- perhaps this texture folder was deleted (/texture.marianas) and now you only have /texture in your Wildcat folder?

I had that no-show happening to me several times, usually when I did some update or cleanup and I forgot to check if the above aircraft.cfg entries still matched the new situation.

Surplus airplanes can be temporarily turned off by placing a semicolon or a double slash (//) in front of those entries like this:

//[fltsim.0]
//title=FM-2 Wildcat
//sim=fm2_wildcat

or:

;model=
;panel=
;sound=
;texture=

In this way CFS2 will ignore them. I happened to forget I had turned off some airplanes and later wondered why they wouldn't show up! :stupid:

All of the above are the only things, I can think of, that might be causing your no-shows.

Cheers!

A clue?

When I look at my aircraft list in large icon view, the two Rufes are the only folders which show contents (see picture).

Thanks for your suggestions chaps.

Hi kdriver,
It may be some sort of issue with them being from a different type compression utility.
I’ve been having problems with different compressed files on the newer Win OS.

Try a test. Create a new Compressed (zipped) folder (right click) on your desktop, and dag and copy the aircraft folders into the zipped folder. Doing this normally decrypts them. Open the zipped folder with Windows’s zip utility. Test them in CFS2.
It’s a long shot, but worth a try.

Hi Dvslats,

I tried that but no luck. Today all the aircraft folders are showing contents, as they should, in large icon view.

It could be a Windows 7 issue.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hmm. a tough nut to crack this one. :confused:
The only other thing I can think of is what happened on my computer, after a CTD.

Here is what fixed it posted by me in this thread.

After that, I'm stumped.

Can you link to the prob aircraft. I will look at them as I have Win7.

This is way out there........

..but I tried it and it seemed to work as all my planes now show up.
Go to the main Theater folder and remove all the "Index" files (Lat, etc). Then restart the game the planes should show up. It was explained to me that it could be that a file was mildly corrupted (whatever) and it affects the planes, whatever, displayed. Also, a respected person who cannot be named here, in the past explained that it is good to do this if you make any changes in the game setup as it now gives the game a blank slate to recompile with and speeds up loading.

Thanks everyone for your help. I've tried everything suggested with no success until today.

I copied the two Rufes into my ETO and they showed up in all their glory in free flight.

So perhaps it is a number of aircraft limit issue. The strange thing is I can add other new aircraft to my PTO and they will show up.

Allen, if you want to try out one, there is mz-a6m2n.zip on the first page of the Akemi Legacy section of the CFS2 aircraft download section - thankyou.

Cheers,

Kevin
