S-3 Viking-Dino's at it again!

Speechless. Breathless. Stabbing the back of my hand with a mechanical pencil to make sure I'm not dreaming...
B_Z_B_Z_B_Z!

Brilliant one of :USA-flag: finest cold war warriors. Long live the Viking and its brilliantly peculiar arrangement! I have to say though it's an S3A for me please! (Though if we got an S3B I would mind that either.) :ernae:

Dino, you're a glutton for punishment. ;)

Thank you!

I remember one of the first times I saw an S-3 was back at an airshow in the 80's. It was on static display, but my friend and I always hung out to watch the planes depart. I remember there were a lot of Hornets there and they put on a spectacular departure display. Most of them would take off, fly the pattern then zoom up. The Hornets left, IIRC, in groups/flights of four.

But when they were done, the S-3 departed. I always thought it was kind of a cool plane so we watched him depart and I felt sorry for him for having to follow the display put on by the departing Hornets. The S-3 takes off, flies the pattern just like the Hornets did, and I was sort of chuckling at his "high speed" pass, and then he pulls the nose up to about a 30 degree climb to depart the pattern and performs an aileron roll in the process! He totally took me by surprise with that maneuver and I've been a fan ever since.

Just the sight of those duel fans sucking in the steam of the awaiting catapult! Reads like an erotic novel doesn't it! :jump:

All I can say Dino is wow! First a redo on the F-14D, and now this? Need any technical help let me know. I never worked on them myself, but now plenty who did. Also have tons of technical information on the old bird too. As a side note if it is worth anything I vote for the S-3B.

Great news and now a sea story: begged and finally got a ride in one off/on the boat with VS-30. Pretty impressed with the War Hoover, didn't take much for this helo guy anyway.

I've got the DSB model in FSX, just never fly it due to the VC port over issues.

It is so good that we have dedicated 'Independent Developers' who think outside the 'Commercial' box!
Looking like a worthy addition to FSX and we can wait as long as it takes.
Grazi!
:applause:

This is great news! I fueled a few S-3's years ago when they came into our ramp which was rare. I've seen them fly many times since I first saw them during the mid 1970's. As far as the final decision to make it an A or B model, personally I always like the A model for it's steamboat gauges and early high viz paints with the tan radome and raccoon mask anti-glare around the windscreen. It seems the panel went through a number of instrument and display MSIP upgrades over the years and the B model upgrades added greater weapon delivery capability(if I am correct on that?). I'd prefer the A model VC but perhaps option later weapon loadouts and low viz gray paints along with the early paints?

In case those who aren't familiar with why Navy Chief called the S-3 a "Hoover" in the above post, have a look at this video:

What a great announcement! I'll be watching very closely ;-)
And I would like to make a stand for the S-3B, because it would give more loadout options (droppable ordonance - would that be a possibility, Dino?) and the chance to represent the last flying Vikings of NASA's Glenn Flight Research Center!!

Drat!!! Beat me to it!!! :icon_lol:

Me too! :) This is good news indeed. Got a landing on the USS Midway in one of those, a US-3 version. That was a fun landing. It will be great to see a "Dino Special" version out there. (whoooop).

Great Choice...Cold Warriors

I hope my profile pix gives you an indication of the S-3 version I'd like to see. VS-22! Incredible Dino! (25 feet off the deck (NATOPS violation, but I wasn't the pilot), 250 kts., looking at flying fish....I thought I was going to die!)

P.S. Fudged up my profile pix, but I hope I can attach the pix.
