Regarding the P-61 project thread.

I usually stay out of heated forum arguments but I feel I have to state my opinion now.

I think it is sad that one of the most infomative and peronally my favorite threads, after over 1000 posts and almost 60000 views on it, had to be closed because some people thought they must make a pissing contest out of the subject.
C'mon guys.

:banghead:

Oh you have got to be kidding? What nonsense. And what a loss. I sure hope that doesn't mean the dropping of the project.

I really don't think they will abandon the project, they are too dedicated and professional to do that, once again, a couple of idiots ruin it for the rest of us. Pam you go girl!!!

The project is alive and well. The thread might return soon...locks have keys :salute:

Personally I think some people on this whole forum need to do some growing up. Mod's, admin's, dev's and members alike. I lurk around here a lot and I see this go on quite a bit. Someone says something and someone disagrees and things either dissolve down into a war of words, a mod gets pissy and closes a thread out of spite or worse a mod or admin makes an unspecified threat towards a member, reminding them that they are an admin or a mod as if that is supposed to make them jump back. When I read something like that being tossed around I always find myself wondering how they handle real life when someone doesn't do what they want them to do. Do they remind that person in traffic that they are a mod or admin there too?

I digress. The point is this place is supposed to be filled with adults but often I don't see many people acting like adults. If you don't agree then agree to disagree. Closing down every thread you don't agree with is killing this place. Apparently the list of taboo subjects is growing by the day. You can't say anything negative about the P61. You can't say anything negative about a developer even if he has strung everyone along over patches for a long time now, you can't have a spirited discussion and you can not disagree with a mod or admin...ever for fear of pissing them off. Frankly it makes the place kind of boring. I spend hundreds of dollars a year in FS software. I support other sites. However the way some of the staff here behaves is one of the major reasons I have not contributed.

I would really like to see that thread re-opened. I don't think it should have been closed in the first place. It was just more un-necessary drama.

Not sure why this was closed, my dog is better than your dog discussions are fairly normal in the sim community and this one was not particularly disrespectful. In fact many interesting facts (and some non facts) come out.

I did the original flight model for this plane back when Michael Davies started it and was included in the current project for a bit. It is an ambitious undertaking , mostly due to the complexity of the interior.

The P-61 was a typical gold plated, Cadillac American approach to the mission. A really good airplane, but too late to really get into the thick of things. The Mossie boys must get credit for doing very well with a make do setup, which speaks well for them and the Mossie. One does not detract from the other.

Several excellent Grumman efforts (F7F and F8F) were too late to see action.

The slogan, "better to be helpful than right" applies, both in applied missives and also in how they are recieved.

Cheers: Tom

For some time we had allowed there to be a comparison between the Mossie and the Widow because in truth of fact, the Mossie and the Widow have always been joined at the hip historically ( in a rather competitive way ) and i felt it was important that that be discussed and examined, since i believe that if you remove a plane from its full historical context, you can no longer have an accurate understanding of it. Hoever, when people started sugesting that we remove turrets and change the basic design in order to accommodate the Mossie, I decided it was enough, and told people to stop. They didnt stop. Now not only were they simply being rude, but they had directly disobeyed the request of a Mod. I had no choice really. I started that thread last July. I felt it was my responsibility to put it down.
However, as Robert said, Locks have keys. It may do us well just to put the thread on hiatus temporarily, but for that, i'm trusting in the wisdom of the Admins and my partner here in the fsx forum..

I don't understand why it was locked? Don't "argue" with a mod about what plane is better?! That is just stupid. What has happened to this forum? Actually, it is quite obvious....

So Blue...who are you? Very little information like, age, location etc. it gives the other members some insight in to who a person is and where they're coming from?
Anyway it seems to me that we are "kind of boring" so you wouldn't miss us then?
This community is very active and diverse and it never surprises me that there are little flare-ups from time to time but it has to get disrespectful before anyone is banned.
I'd like to think the policing here is pretty fair on the whole within the bounds of human frailty and dealing with occasional late-night intoxication.

Pam,

I have read though that entire thread. I really think you have taken this whole thing way too personally and you are being a little irrational here. I failed to see where anyone in that thread was being rude or suggested that the aircraft being modeled be transformed into a "Mossiewiddow" or anything of the sort. What I did see however was a spirited discussion about aircraft and when the parties couldn't agree one of them made a generalized threat in regards to "pissing off a mod" (not cool), then took their ball and went home. Again..not cool. The other attempted to fall on their sword. Can we get that thread back on track and everyone get over their own ego's please?

Roger,

You yourself made one of those vague threats just the other day when someone didn't just bow and move along in the vertigo thread. Just as you made another here towards me just now. It seems that you and some of your staff have a bad habit of that. Nobody likes to be bullied and I have witnessed it here more than a few times. There is a difference between policing and being a bully. Which is why some people in the community don't open their wallets and support this website me included. As for my information I wasn't aware that giving out all of my information was necessary for membership here. You are an admin, you set the parameters for what is required at sign up. Did I fail to meet those? If not then what is the problem if I don't want to tell the whole world where I live or what my name is or what I do for a living or what my computer specs are? I also don't have a Facebook page. Gasp!!! :salute:

I have noticed that far more threads get locked in the FSX forum than in the FS9 forum. I realize FSX has become more popular and gets more postings, but I think there is something going on here. Either admins are too soft skinned or there are posters that relish a pissing contest... or both. Either way, I'm getting tired of coming here just to see a "who is right contest" or a bashing thread or threads that devolve into the aforementioned.

It's one thing to be constructive with criticism, it's altogether different to bash, berate, or be mean spirited.

It all boils down to one thing. If a Mod or an admin tell you to stop, Please stop.. Thats why the thread was closed. I said stop, and it was ignored. If i had allowed that to go on, what would that say about mods and admins here as a whole?? What if it were your thread and someone started crap with you and you asked for a mod or admin to help and all they could do is shrug because no one was gonna listen anyway??
I'm sorry, i closed it for a reason that had nothing to do with drama or Mosquito's or anything other than, the persons seeming inability to stop when they are told to do so. I hated closing that thread and i've got the hangover today to prove it, but i'd do it again in a heartbeat if i felt i had too..

Henk, mine is the balsa handbag, adaptable for many uses but with no turret.

Blue, trust me, compared with some other forums I used to frequent the Outhouse is a garden of sweetness and light. The generous nature of many here, and the cooperation which as given us (and will hopefully continue to do) so many wonderful projects that would likely never have seen the light of day are astounding. Rather than get into a pissing contest, I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the many who make my hobby so much fun - and the few ..... well, I can ignore them largely.

Sorry I could not disagree more. Its sad that the treat is closed but most freeware or payware developers which post here have usual the quest of historical accuracy.

Considering the time which gets into this-->(years believe me) I can understand Pam a lot to try to remove the tower boys, instead of removing a turret(which never develop anything, just critizise arround) out of the P-61 forum, what is there to show the progress and discuss historical questions but not for such nonsense.

I just hope that it gets opened again after some time

Your first post in the thread was disrespectful to the staff here. That is a bannable offense.
