Saitek X52 issues with new PC on Win 7 64 bit

Just got my new rig (4.4gig overclocked Haswell 4770k cpu/Nivida GTX 780) and have done the "Nick Guide" clean install. Has generally gone quickly and well but still a lot of payware a/c (tracking down lost keys/proof of purchase stuff) and home made scenery I managed to salvage before my old pc died to re-install.

What I wasn't expecting was that my X-52 (non pro) has gone really wonky. It is hard to describe but either the axis control - rudder, aileron and particularly pitch - are way too sensitive making flying an unrealistically wobbly and therefore un-fun experience while at the same time there seem to be lags in inputs, e.g. the throttle, as well as inability to get full power from the throttle and also the elevator pitch wheel. On my old rig the pitch wheel sometimes would have an annoying pitch down bias (sometimes preventing the AP Alt from holding altitude) until I vigorously "exercised" it, then all would be fine and you could trim out many planes such that they would fly level, etc hands off. Not remotely possible now.

I suspect this is a software/conflict/calibration issue rather than a mechanical wear or wiring fault problem. Have calibrate it dozens of times but no better. Have tried it in both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. I have only the basic Saitek drivers/software from the original CD. Their SST software is not for me. Is there any issue with Windows 7 or 64 bit systems that could be relevant?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Expat,
Go here to the Saitek web site:
http://www.saitek.com/uk/down/drivers.php

Select your product(X52 in your case)
Then select what operating system you are using
Use USB 2.0 port

Install the updated drivers and it should work fine...
I just purchased a Jetline System and had to get the latest drivers from Saitek-worked great

Rick - thanks so much. Will try this later today. My hope is that the problem is it needs 64 bit drivers. Will report back.

Just get the correct drivers....
Had the same gear with the same OS....no issues....other than the constant urge to upgrade.....the x65f is much more 'fun'...;)

Expat, I ran into the same thing when I got my new system with Win7/64. I took only a few minutes to straighten out getting the correct drivers. My 7 year old X52 is still running strong on the new PC.

Just to add that I recently did the same reinstall exercise. I have a 9 year old Saitek USBGold stick that has served me well in Windows XP and Vista32. The Saitek drivers go up to WinXP 32. I was nervous if the stick would work in 7/64 because the thing is in excellent condition after all these years and I like its feeling a lot. I did not install any drivers but Windows recognised it once I plugged it in. Once in FSX I noticed that its response was not good, similar issues like the ones you reported. By hitting the "calibrate" button from within the FSX control settings and completing the calibration procedure the stick worked great. I'm happy I do not have to replace it.

SOLVED !!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! What a difference. All rock steady and as it should be now.

I can't thank you all enough for this steer. This is what makes SOH so great and practically valuable. As someone who is very short of time to troubleshoot these kinds of things, this otherwise could have taken hours or days for me to figure out.

It is reassuring to know you can post a question or problem here and in no time at all - bang! - your post gets hit (kind of like fishing if you are familiar with it . .) and someone has the solution.

:salute:

Well, I have the same problem with ultra-sensitivity, but installing new drivers did NOT fix the problem. Now what??? As things are now, I am not able to fly:mad: NC

Ruh roh !

Are you sure you downloaded the correct one? Stumped me at first until I googled further and discovered the right file was not so easy to find in the drop down menu at the Saitek site.

Hey Navy Chief..

Go to the link I posted in response#2

  • First select product type
  • Then product
  • Then operating system ........Then download the drivers

I went to the site this AM and it is real slow to load
Maybe you just got a corrupt download?

Yep, am sure I downloaded the right file. But the problem existed before I updated the driver, and it continues......NC

Maybe I should uninstall the drivers and reinstall; I don't know....

NC, just to be sure, have you moved from a 32bit to a 64bit PC? That was the sole cause of the issue originally posted here and its resolution.

No, my machine was built as a 64 bit. I am going to uninstall everything Saitek, and reinstall, but without the Saitek software. Will report back. NC

Are you using the Pro or non Pro X52?
Make sure you grab the correct driver--I made that mistake once

I have the Pro X52, and I think I just found the source of the problem. The P/S 2 cable is messed up; at least one of the prongs is bent. When I tried to straighten it, I was able to get it to seat properly, but am positive that is the problem. So I ordered a new cable (I buy from Monoprice....very cheap). Should be here in a couple days. NC

You should be flying in no time!
Glad you solved the problem!

Am still without controllers for now

Well, the replacement P/S2 cable arrived, but that didn't fix the problem. One or more of the pots in the stick are dirty/bad. Good news is, however, my controllers are still under warranty. I shipped them back to California, and I expect the replacements will arrive sometime after Thanksgiving.
