Satan's Kittens Problems

Archive1

Charter Member
I have been installing Satan’s Kittens and have run into some download problems using the “Required Downloads” document.
It appears that several of the links to download required elements, ships esp., are either broken or point to the wrong place in the SOH website. For example: I want to download the EK_44_CVL file but when using the address as given below in the documentation:
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&id42&id=6300
…I am not directed to the appropriate page for the correct ship. In fact I just end up at the Home page for SOH. And if one looks up the 6300 address in the SOH library it leads one to a quite different file.
This is true for: Marianas Carriers_USN.zip, Big_Mamie.zip, VN_Wash.zip, VN_Cleveland.zip, VN_Tone.zip. The link for the SHJ_Coaster.zip seemed strange, but that may be my fault.
A separate issue, and I am a bit embarrassed to admit it, but how does one do a search for a specific file from the library? Searches seem to be limited to member posts, not for specific library files – eg, for specific Aircraft, for Campaigns, for Panels, etc. for CFS2

Archive1,

I usually provide specific links in my campaigns, but if you want to search the warbirds library by section, click here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=14&tabid=446

In your case, to the "ships" section and download the files you need by looking at each page.

If you are searching for files by a specific user, in the "search" feature, you type the person's username in the box on the right side, about halfway down. (Captain Kurt, The Virtual Navy, etc.) It will bring up all the files for that specific user.

If you get stuck, just ask me. I'll help you find it faster than a frog on a hotplate. :redfire:

I did, as always, start with clicking on the provided ‘hot links’ in the documentation, which usually takes you directly to the item wanted (aircraft, object, scenery…etc). But in this case it too often dead-ends at the SOH main page for some (emphasis on ‘some’) required bits…others, when clicked on, are made available in regular order (as are yours for your several re-worked campaigns) and can be downloaded in regular order.

For some of the inaccessible bits I just directly Googled them and was taken to the SOH or Simviation database and then download with ease…for others, nada.
Yes, I’m familiar with going into the SOH sections (like ‘Ships’), but paging through massive numbers of items (starting at page 1 of maybe 100) looking for just a single Ship is a great inefficiency. There should be some way for Library users to just enter the name…keyword…whatever, of the item (plane, ship, panel, object, etc) and be taken by the webpage directly to that item, or similar cogeners, in the database.

I tried your suggestion of entering author and item in the standard SOH Search box, and ended up at the SOH main page.

Thanks for the reply, but I don’t think we are at the goal line yet.

Archive1,

There is the possibility it could be a browser issue, or a cookie issue. Have you tried logging out, cleaning your cookies, and logging back in again?

Hi Guys,

I get the same result that Archive1 is getting, but I don't know why. The hyperlink addresses are correct. Some work and some have stopped working.

However because the addresses are correct, if you copy the hyperlink address from the downloads list and then paste it into the address window of your browser, it links to the file and you can download it.

The downloads list states this issue in the title "Required Downloads: (cut and paste into browser address window)" :173go1:LOL:adoration:

I am addressing the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs of Archive1's last post:

I do believe we have an search engine issue. To wit, I arbitrarily went through the CFS2 French aircraft section and picked the "Caudron C.714" uploaded by "bismarck13". I went back to the home page and loaded both terms into both the Search and the Advanced SEARCH boxes. All I came up with were 1-2 pages of FORUM POSTS; at no point did it search the FILE LIBRARY, exactly pinpoint the file(s) associated with the keyword(s) and return the DOWNLOAD page to me.

I then logged out, was told that all cookies were cleared and logged back in. I repeated the same procedure as outlined above and got the same results.

If I want to get one or two pages of FORUM POSTS that may or may not eventually point me to the specific file I'm interested in, I'm going to have to search one-to-all the relevant posts. That's a terrific waste of time. As I say, at no time did it appear to me that the FILE LIBRARY was searched for the keywords "Caudron C.714" or "bismarck13" and any or all files associated with those keywords broken out.

I'm with Archive1 -- We're not at the goal line yet in terms of a search engine that gives the user what they really want. I've had the same problem in the past that he has described and have basically given up on it for a resource.

Did you try here:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforu...atid=42&keyid=&sort=d&page=1&pp=20&nameid=DEF

The EF CVLs were by the Virtual Navy

Here is the location of ALL of the VN ships
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links_search.php?action=show&userid=102449&sort=d

Marianas carriers;
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforu...atid=42&keyid=&sort=d&page=1&pp=20&nameid=MNO

Just use teh drop down filter windows. Granted the index seems to have become a little convoluted but some pecking will work. Seek and ye shall find.

Glh,

Because you're using the wrong search engine. You need to be using the Add-on Library search engine: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links_search.php?action=search&tabid=446

This is what searches the files. Typing Caudron C.714 into the "search text" box, eight entries came up using "any words" and one came up using "exact phrase."

Always make sure to select "Search Add-ons library," it is on the home page. Searching the forums only will only give you the results you described in your post.

Thank you, sir. I stand corrected. All I can say is that I missed the connection that there were (at least) TWO separate search engines on the site. Ah, well, getting old is H*ll.

Good afternoon,

Here is the revised readme file with corrected links.

Archive1: Please keep speaking up about situations like this so they can be corrected. Far too many people remain silent on issues like this.
