Scenery "Can't Find" Errors

Recently I've noticed that that while flying I will occasionally get error prompts for allegedly missing scenery items, either mentioned by name such as "can't find model inf_large_pier_depot in library" or numerically such as 0x001245 or something similar. The errors don't crash the sim, I just click OK in the error box and they go away but it's annoying to have your flying interrupted. Funny thing is, when I check for the named items in the SCENEDB folders they're there. I am very diligent when installing scenery to make sure everything goes in the right folders. Can anybody explain what causes these errors?

I have the same problem. I figure I either have too many add-ons or Vista is just too lazy to look for everything the mission calls for. Any suggestions from the experts would be doubly appreciated!

Yeah, an be sure to read the 'Read Me' VERY carefully, as I just found out with a recent scenery install.

How about the items that are only identified numerically in the error prompt (see pic)? How can you find out what those items are?
About the time I got the error for the missing Wolfi item, I also got one for "lwd_conifer_01" which I recognized as a Lindsey Watt tree and I know I installed them correctly. I think sometimes CFS2 decides to go stupid just to pi$$ us off.

In terms of the errors with numerical identifications, where were you flying? I seem to recall that the Madrid scenery had this inherent issue. In fact, the readme (contained in a fix) mentions the possibility that not all textures were included. This might explain the error messages.

Also, I've noticed that some objects I'm certain were installed occasionally do not appear. For example "dux_hut" disappears at times.

Another possibility:

Yo Tb;

Check yer "OBJECTS_DP" folder ..... How many files are in there?
(right click the folder & then left click "properties" on the drop down menu)

More than 1800 - 1900 files?....... Then you've hit the limit Bro.

I was flying in Japan, where I have SRTM mesh installed as well as Xavier's Japan airfields. Can't remember if those airfields required Wolfi's scenery objects, but they're all installed properly as of last night. My OBJECTS_DP folder contains 1436 files, not yet at the 1800 level. Well, so long as CFS2 doesn't crash or lock up my computer I can live with these quirks. Will try flying in the Philippines where I also have terrain mesh and MaskRider's airfields - see what happens down there. Thanks everybody for your comments. :)

I would like to reopen this..........

subject because I'm having similar problems. Sometimes I select an aircraft and things are fine and the next time I get an error message stating the weps are missing when obviuosly they aren't! This happens randomly. Also, closing and reopening the sim doesn't always correct the problem.

Also I have one aircraft, the latest Ki-44, for which I have two versions (i.e., textures), yet when I select the one that's not showing on the aircraft selection screen, it doesn't change on the selection screen, even though it does change when I go to the actual flight. Doesn't sound like a major problem, which it isn't, but I like things to work as they are designed to.

Any thoughts guys ??

Sometimes defragging your hard drive can help...and if you have this feature available on the defragger, setting it to optimize the files and folders on the drive will position the most frequently used stuff for faster accessing. But this option takes a bit longer to complete than a simple defrag.

Over time and constant use, files and folders (especially those associated with heavily modified gaming) become badly fragmented and scattered all over the drive. Thus the sim engine takes longer to hunt and ID required items ---half of a weapon's bgl is in one part of the drive and the other half is fragged into little pieces in other parts of the drive.

If you're in a big hurry, a simple reinstall of the item can help too. And make sure it has an entry in the mdlnames.txt file also.

This is a bug not found in MSFS...you can connect multiple liveries in the aircraft.cfg to one model folder and they will all show in the selection window without fail. Not so with CFS2. In order for each livery to show in the selection, they each must have their own model folder. Here's an example from a single Wildcat folder in my hangar. I named the folder "F4F4_WILDCAT_Aces" and bundled representing liveries from multiple PTO aces into it.

Layout of the aircraft.cfg:

Thanks mucho Bearcat..............

for the prompt and very thorough explanation! Speaking of defrag, which I try to do fairly regularly, do you know if there is a better freeware defrag program than the one in Windows or is it time to break out the wallet??

You're welcome...

For defragging i use two, depending on my moods: IObit Smart Defrag and UltimateDefrag. And they both have freeware version options, depending on the sources you find in your search, and they both have optimization features.
