SCENERY HIERARCHY

I feel like a newbie asking this but I have hit a stumbling block in my brain as to scenery hierarchy. I am rebuilding my PTO and figured (recalled) that Rhumbas'/water and world goes near the bottom above terrain(1) but get lost when it come to placement of UT's add-ons' from SW atolls and reefs onward. In other words ALL of his d/l's order! Anyone wish to light the candle ,or post a sample, so I can find my way out of the wilderness ? I recall UT had posted a sample of his awhile back but my searches have met with no joy.
Humbly submitted .

Fibber,UT gives good instructions on how to set up his scenery. You set up 1 and check it.

Ours is setup with the Marianas as the first scenery and setup as instructed. There is a lot in this package. After Every thing was working right we put in the next scenery below it.

After you get each package to work you always put the next 1 below it.

Sometimes you may have to put the runway excludes above the runways,we have a runway exclude folder there.

We have a mixture of MR and UT scenery using this method with no problems.Others may do it different and hopefully share.

Hi Fibber,

We went into scenery hierarchy a bit in this recent thread:

UT's Marianas-Bonins package has screenshots of his Scenery Library as of September last year.

If you get into trouble, post your scenery.cfg file here and I'm sure we can sort it out.

THANK YOU both for your responses. Heide, I hd them all set up beautifully before the crash and 10 lost the notes 2) just trying to take the lazy way out with a refresher.:shame:
KD; thank you also for showing that I still have a few cognizant marbles rolling around in my cranium and was right in remembering that post. That will really refire the synapses to function again.
Again , THANK YOU both for the help.:wavey:

Errata fix . It is amazing what Win11 will do to butcher what you write ! The previous post to Heide should have "had" in place of "hd" and "then" in place of "10".
KD; my response to you should read "remembering that a post was made"

I put some notes & screengrabs together in a document that hopefully explains the "logic" behind the scenery hierarchy I'm using.

Maybe you'll find it useful.

Also, each of my later packages usually has some screengrabs illustrating my Scenery Hierarchy circa the time of that particular package's release.

Please post this to the resources library. This comes up a lot, as the fact is, how to make it all work is not well understood. It should then become a permanent sticky here for people to refer to when loading sceneries.

John,

Thanks for doing this. A couple of questions:

I notice you have both Pen32Win's and your PNG scenery active. Won't there be a conflict with the Port Moresby aerodromes?

Do you think the stock water masks, files named "pac????p.bgl", need to be moved out of the SCENEDB\world\scenery folder and put into a separate active layer? Some of MaskRider's scenery requires Rhumba's 2009 water masks and the deactivation of those "pac????p.bgl" files.

Kev,

Don't read too much into the "active" layers, these are a snapshot on a particular day.

When I did the Port Moresby scenery I highlighted the Pen32win bases to be archived as they conflict (also the Awar, Dagua & But 'dromes around Wewak), I just kept this layer active to check that archiving did resolve any conflicts completely.

Interesting idea regarding the stock watermasks. Moving them out from the scenery folder into a layer of their own that you can deactivate sounds like it would be really useful!

I have always been focused on Rhumba mesh world, so I always start with these masks removed anyway....

UT, et al ; Thanks for the guidance ,and patience, in helping sort out my brain short circuits.:wavey: UT , I did have all your atolls and SWPTO running beautifully and then :pop4: all gone! Along with ALL my saved notes. Stupid me had stopped keeping hard copies of everything and had it all saved on that computer. To quote Edgar Allen Poe's Raven "NEVERMORE !".
I think it would be a GREAT idea to make a general guide and a "Stickie" on this subject to guide those of us who, from time to time, get CRS. In addition to those setting up the theater(s) for the first time.

Thanks for posting these comments and examples. I have always struggled with the scenery hierarchy as Rami and others will attest to. Its been a while since sticking my foot in the water, so to speak. I will file these away.
