Scenery Issues

Hmm,

What a mess.

The Rapopo shot from the air showing the black square suggests the Rapopo airfield background bitmap is missing, or the wrong format.

A couple of the shots don't show any coastlines, so the stock coastlines have been removed, or excluded.

The Rapopo shot from the ground suggests the airbase A16N is at a significantly different level to the mesh.

My guesses:

You've got Rhumbas mesh active, but are trying to use Masriders old PNG airbases.
These airfields were created long before Rhumbas mesh, so you'll have problems like this

Or

You've got some PTO Coastal flattens/ watermasks active, & they're playing havoc with airbases close to the shore.
Again, apart from Rhumbas 2019 work all his earlier flattens were made long before he released his mesh.

Mission Builder Global Scenery Layer Editor Keyboard Commands

Activate GSL edit mode = Ctrl + Alt + Shift + G

Save GSL = Ctrl + Alt + S

Load a layout file = Ctrl + L

Save layout file. = Ctrl + E

By default once you save the GSL, it’s automatically added to the default CFS2.gsl file.

Once added to the gsl, the scenery can only be removed by removing the .gob file.

You can save a master copy of your work in .mis or .lay format.

Thank you so much!

Thank you so much!
I suggest you get the LW GSL tutorial I mentioned.I has a blank GSL file yo work with.Another thing,if you just put in the ships you want you may lose the other objects that are already there because that area may be rewritten.

Good Point. I should have that tutorial somewhere. I remember downloading it. I'm likely going to hold off with creating a separate GSL or adding to one for now until I learn more. Thanks.

You're probably sick and tired of all my questions by now ,but unfortunately I have more. First can anyone explain the image shown from one of my installs? I not sure which location it is, but I have never seen it before. Second ,in another one of my installs, with some of the stock scenery, but not all of it, where there should be water, there is only land. What could be a reason for that? All the issues that I have and talked about are with the scenery, both stock and add-on. Thanks for
putting up with my constant questioning. All your comments are much appreciated. Thanks.

Here's another dumb question. What would cause objects to appear in the middle of a runway or in a runway when they are supposed to be outside
the runway area in a scenery package? This seems to occur with mostly add-on and not stock scenery with me. Thanks.

Couple of things my noggon came up with. Probably not installed correctly its conflicting with something else or your tripping out seeing things that ain't there like water when your crossing the dessert or a Hooters waitress under your Christmas tree.. Ae you sure your runways line up with what the scenry mod calls for. I recomend do another install and take your time. You will get it.

Some add-on runways replace/ relocate stock runways.
If the add-on runway is in the same area as stock gsl objects, and you don't install the add-on gsl to replace the stock gsl objects, the stock gsl objects will still be loaded by the sim, sometimes appearing on a runway...

Without any idea of where, it's almost impossible to guess what might cause this.

However, the screenshot does give some hints.
The shoreline looks "smooth"(curvy). This is typical of the stock shorelines.
The water spots are small areas with point to point edging. This is typical of add-on watermask polys, suggesting they are watermasks for small islands, repositioned from where the stock scenery draws the island.

So it looks like you have part of an add-on scenery installed, or the scenery hierarchy is wrong, leading to land showing where water should be, & other anomalies.

Without a location, or any idea of which add-ons you think you've installed, it really is a guessing game.

If you want help with scenery issues, you really need to supply much more detail...

From all the questions you have been posting it's clear your scenery install is kind of a mash up of either incompatible sceneries, ground and sea objects, GSL's and hierarchies or maybe all of them.

If you would post your Scenery CFG. file contents, list all of the GSL's you have activated, and ALL of the object sceneries you have loaded. then maybe it would be possible to sort out the incompatibilites.

A scenery requires compatible ( i.e. made for that scenery) add on airfields and objects packages, as well as being organized in the hierarchy display so it all shows up in the game without the glitches you are fighting. Mix and match different types of sceneries and add ons just does not work.

I'm not sure about your scenery issue simfreak, but when I have needed help from the knowledge base and I post an image, I have always made sure the Long. and Lat. show by pressing Shift-Z. And I have needed a LOT of scenery help in the resent past. Don't worry, the guys are a great help and you will get it sorted out. Just takes time.

I think he's like a kid in a candy store and wants everything at once and I know all about that having 3 children.

Most people probably have had problems setting up some scenery at one time or another.Usually it's they missed a step in installing it,it happens. If you have it in the wrong sequence in the scenedb it will not work or look right. When we first put in the Marianas scenery the runways didn't show up,it wound up we missed something in the readme and the sequence was wrong, once it was fixed everything worked.

UT gives great instructions of how to install his scenery and always answers any questions you have if you have a problem. We use a combination of his scenery and MaskRider scenery with no problems.Never had trees or any other objects in the air or on runways.

My thoughts are simfreek doesn't read or follow the instructions, doesn't put the airbases in the airbases data file or doesn't put everything you need in the scenerydb and activate all of it.
When you try to help and give suggestions he blows it off and says"I don't think I want to do that".So what does he do?Complains it doesn't look or work right.

Thank you all for your comments. What I hink I am going to have to do is basically start from scratch with respect to scenery on the installs that I have problems with and not go crazy adding things and slow down. Deleting all add-on scenery including mesh scenery and leaving only the stock scenery. Then each time I add something , I'll check to see if there is a problem or not and try to fix it before adding something else. If it takes time, that's fine. And I will separate out my other installs better so I don't have a bunch a scenery in one install, just what I need for a particular area. I think that's you would like to see me do. Happy flying.
