Scenery Object

rdaniell

SOH-CM-2013
I made a old fashioned "goose neck" light fixture object that can be attached to hangers, operations buildings, etc. In order to use this object, you will need to already know how to place objects in FSX. You can edit the size of the object and use the elevation setting function to set its height on the building.

I'm attaching a zip which contains the scenery bgl and texture file for anyone who would like a copy. It has a light effect already attached.

Good Job Randy!!! I love the look of these fixtures. I used to have a couple of them w/o the gooseneck. Hard green enamel outside and white on the inside. We call 'em china hats on the movie sets.

Thanks Obie. I didn't make it from scratch. I just converted an existing SketchUp :kilroy:landscape lighting object for FSX use and added the light effect.

Nice work RD. However, when I started reading this thread, I thought we were talking about the goose-neck oil lamps they used to use to light runways on WW2 airfields. Now that would be a nice to have :icon_lol:

I found this photo on the web. Are these what you had in mind?

That's the sort of thing. The ones I have seen were black rather than yellow.

There's lots more here:

http://www.airfieldinformationexchange.org/community/showthread.php?3893-Goose-Neck-s/page1

And in fact I see someone has already made one for FS. May drop him a PM.

EDIT: actually I think it may be an animation, not FS.

That's the site I found also. I don't think that object shown in the video was from FSX. But if you can get a copy of the object in a format that model converter X will convert, you might get what you're looking for. Good luck! I haven't reach the stage of animation in my scenery object building.

I can probably build the base lamp object myself, but getting the lighting FX right is another matter :icon_lol:

I've already made the scenery object. Check my separate thread entitled: Gooseneck Runway Lamp.

Anyway, I got it to show a flame but, unfortunately, it also shows up during the daytime as well. (You'll will notice all the fire trucks at the scene.) I don't know doodlie squat about changing effect files.

Maybe some effects guru will step forward to help on this project.

Ah - that bit I do know something about. I already added some Pundit beacons to my airfields and I had to make sure they only displayed at Dusk/Night/Dawn. That was something I set when adding the effect to the airfield in ADE9X. As I recall, there is a wrinkle in FSX which means that you have to create two FX in the same spot, one for (I think) Day/Night and the other for Dawn/Dusk. When I get a chance, I'll go check.

You flame looks a tad -er - fierce  I think the video on the Airfield Information site link has it about right.

Well, I wanted you to be able to see it at night...:icon_lol: That's another thing that an effects guru, which I'm not, could modify. However, I'm retired and plan to give it a go. After all, "what does time mean to a hog on his way to Chicago."

BTW....I just deleted the duplicate thread.

Drop me a p.m. with your e-mail address if you want the scenery object as is. I enjoyed messing around with it as I learned a few more tricks using SketchUp and MDX.

That's a generous offer - look out for a PM.

I will. I have it all zipped and ready to send to you. I'm including the scenery bgl, textures, and effect file. I did a lot of trial and error tweaking on a renamed copy of the effects file. I don't think you'll need all those fire trucks now...:icon_lol: It also now only shows at night.

Same offer to anyone else who would like a copy....p.m. with e-mail address. I think the file is a little too big to simply be attached to this thread.
