Scenery Question

I have a quick question I hope someone can help eith. I've downloaded all the updated scenery, runways, mesh and installed all per the specs contained in the files but it doesn't seem to be showing up. When I start at an airport in Europe, I'm on the runway, but there's no runway or buildings or anything. Basically just the outline of where the airport should be. Also, the scenery seems to "move" with my aircraft. As I fly, the scenery and colors around my plane change from what I see in the distance. Strange. Anyone have any ideas?

I just installed the airfields for all the European and med countries. As I said, the outline of the airbases are present but there are no runways or other scenery.

If the terrain textures are there, by outlines and such, without runways, then you've put your AFD and runway bgl files in the wrong places somehow. Go back and redo the setup. Or at least do another setup walk-through step by step until you figure out what went wrong.

Yes I agree with BC,
I do not use that scenery, BUT if it uses CFS2 runways they have to go into Scenedb runways folder and not in the scenery folder.

just my 2 cents,

Dave

Thanks for the input. I looked it over again. Maybe that's all it's supposed to do. Place the airfields in their proper locations. The layout of the entire airport is there to include the runways but they're a dark gray. Maybe it's up to me to overlay the runways. I placed the JHS_Germany.zip by the instructions..... Placed the JHS_Germany scenery in the SceneryDB file and initiated it through the scenery library. Then, ran the gsl.exe. I really like how it darkens the airfields. Maybe that's all it's supposed to do. I thought runways would be a part of it, that's all. As I said, maybe that's all it's supposed to do and it's up to the user to do the rest. One more quick question..... I use Airport 2.60 for adding airfields. The runway textures are quite limited. Any way to add other textures to use?

Richdrag5,

Any chance you could post some screenshots so we can see what you are seeing and try to help further?

Long shot here,

Many textures have to be placed in not only the Texture Folder of your scenery, but into the Main CFS2 texture folder
and then into the Scenery world texture folder. Yep all 3 places.

Just my 2 cents worth,

Dave

Hi, all. Thanks for the input. I read over many posts on this forum the last couple days and was able to get the scenery working. It was due to the .gsl file. In one of the posts, it stated that the .gsl file will increase in size after you run the gsl.exe. Well, I noticed that my cfs2.gsl file stayed the same, around 623K. I tried to run the gsl.exe for all the files over again but the .gsl file never increased in size. I went into the Properties menu of the file and there was a box at the bottom that stated something to the effect that the file was imported from another computer and had to check the box to unblock it. I did that, ran the gsl.exe and it worked. Ran all the files and now everything is present. One more item I noticed, I can't run the gsl.exe while it in my working copy of CFS2 for some reason, I found this out when I accidentally ran the gsl.exe when I was in my backup CFS2 file. Tried it again in my default CFS2 file and it wouldn't work. Strange, but no big deal. Anyway, thanks for all the responses. If I have any more issues, I'll be sure to let you know. Thanks again.

Are you running a system higher than XP? If so, this is another annoying security measure built into the "newer, better" OS's. And these blockages seem random at times with no rhyme or reason. For instance, i can download ten zip files of similar size while in XP and for some odd reason Win7 will flag three of them encrypted and cannot be opened.

Ah, I see. Well, I'm running on Windows 10 but compatibility settings in XP. Not a real big deal but it just took time to figure out. I must say, though that the program runs great on Windows 10. My FPS is around 250 and even with the most complex scenery, I have never fallen below 100 fps. Just getting to that point, though has taken a lot of time and attention. I have one more week off for the holidays and it's back to the office so I have to get this all figured out. Looking good as of now.
