Screenshot slide show - needs testing!

Hiya guys!

I need some feedback. I am working on a little project- trying to digest all of my old screen-shots into slide-shows. To make them I am using a program called Photodex ProShow Producer. I have a rough first show ready to go- Papua New Guinea images- and I need to know if it works ok!

Here is the link-

http://mask-rider.net/cfs2-screenshots-png.html

Does it start when you click on the link? If not what happens exactly? Any dialogue boxes? Does it ask whether you wish to install a plug-in called ProShow Presenter? BTW, if it does, its OK.

I just need to know if there are any glitches.

I am starting out uploading the things to my own website. But there are other options if this doesn't pan out.

As I said, its a bit rough around the edges- a first attempt! :)

Thanks!

MR

Chris: I hit the link and when the page opened my computer asked if I wanted to install Photodex. I clicked on yes/instal but nothing happened - my Norton rejected it. I will try again later...

Chris, i installed the plugin, hit the page refresh key (F5) and saw it through to the end with no problems. I should also mention that i was in Google Chrome at the time.

Hey Chris,

Using Firefox at work (not that I would watch CFS2 slideshows at work-might have to fire myself!), everything worked fine - had to install the plug-in, then realized I could full-screen the slideshow, very nice! (My Norton said the plugin was safe)

Thanks guys!

Ok, good. So far it sounds about like I was expecting. My default browser is Firefox and I usually have no probs. But I already have the Photodex plug-in installed. IE gives me problems at time- it pops up one those content or script approval dialogues and that sometimes screws up the whole deal.

OK, fine. I am planning to put links to the slide shows on my MR website in place of the galleries. BTW, if anyone has any screenies they would like to share feel free to contribute. They don't need to have anything to do with my scenery.

BTW the "Alte Kameraden" soundtrack is a good one for several reasons: First, its just a danged fine march; second its length, about 3.5 minutes, fits in nicely with my short attention span and; thirdly, allows room for 40 to 44 slides paced at a readable rate.

I'll be posting more over the next couple of weeks Probably do DEI next.

Again, thank you
MR

Chris - Running Chrome, the plug-in wouldn't install. However I switched to Internet Explorer using the Chrome extension and it installed fine. Took a bit to load but ran great once it started and looks particularly good in full screen

I use ProShow for creating DVD shows. It's an excellent program, you'll like it.

Thanks Cody. Your experience is very similar to what happens to me sometimes. Uploading to my website seems to give inconsistent playback results. When I upload to Photodex's show-sharing gallery everything seems to work much better and consistantly.

The browser also seems to affect the result.

BTW, when you say it "took a bit to load"? Did it seem as though it were downloading the entire 50+ MB of the entire show before it would play it- or what?

WRT, ProShow, yes, I really like Photodex's ProShow products. I started out using ProShow-Gold- for sending DVD-based shows of family type events and other such stuff to family and friends. Upgraded to Producer a while back- just before coming east to care for my aging father. Never had a chance to mess with it much after I got it- ended up staying here much longer than I had originally planned. Left all my "stuff" at home in California. But now I have finally got my hands on it again and started messing around with it.

Out of curiosity- I use a little program named "Audacity" to edit sound files. Do you ever mess with the sounds much?

Thanks again for the feedback.
MR

Chris - Yes, it seemed like it waited for the full 50+ MB to load. I thought it had frozen up, but then it started. I think that might be a ProShow quirk. Regarding ProShow, I'm still using Gold and very pleased with it. Producer would be nice, but probably overkill for my applications.

I use Audicity and have done so for 5 or 6 years. I really like it, and use it frequently with ProShow to edit or create soundtracks. It's an amazingly versatile editor considering it's free.

Hey Cody,

Hmmmm. That is interesting about it loading the whole thing before it plays. It sometimes does that for me, too and other times not. Its a little too quirky and end-user unpredictable for my tastes. I think I might stick to loading them up to the photodex gallery for the time being. That seems to work OK. I don't remember ever having these issues with Gold, but perhaps I did and don't remember- mostly did DVD shows anyway.

Yes, I love Gold. I taught myself to do everything with Gold that I can supposedly now do more "intuitively" and "efficiently" with Producer. But, I am not so sure the upgrade was necessary. But it is what it is at the moment.

I share your feelings about Audacity. It never disappoints me- I'm always pleasantly surprised at what it enables me to do.

Cheers

IE9 installed the plug-in, no issues, worked fine.

Hiya Naismith,

Thanks for sending the feedback.

So, it started right up for you, huh? Thats good. Wish I could feel confident that it will always work so well for everyone.

If you ever get a chance, could you try it again and see if things go as smoothly the second time around?

Again, thank you.

MR

I think I might have the hangin up problem solved. I added the executable, pxplay.exe, for photodex presenter to Norton's ignore/allow list. All seems to functioning normally. See if it holds steady.

New Screenshot slideshows

Howdy all,

Still fooling around with the issue of where best to post my CFS2 screen-shot sideshows. Posting them to my website seems to yield very uneven results- sometimes they play fine other times not. Haven't yet figured out why- something to do with the script on the page not being quite right.

Posting them to the PhotoDex website seems to yield best results.

Here are links to the 1st four screen-shot slide-shows I have posted to Photodex:

Dutch East Indies

Micronesia

Papua New Guinea

Solomons

A Marianas show along with several others are still in the works.

All feedback, suggestions and additional screenies welcome- these shows are easily changed.

Cheers,
MR

Hi MR,

Just clicked on the link, downloaded the ActiveX control and watched.

Everything went without a hitch.

Nice Job,

B24Guy, Devildog73, p14u2nv, SgtT, Cody,

Thanks guys. I am glad that the shows uploaded to the PhotoDex site are playing without glitches.
